Free indoor and outdoor family activities at the National Memorial Arboretum in Staffordshire

Visitors of all ages are invited to take part in a new programme of free indoor and outdoor activities at the National Memorial Arboretum in Staffordshire, within the National Forest, during February half term (17-21 February). From indoor craft activities and interactive storytelling sessions to outdoor woodland trails and play areas, whatever the weather, families can enjoy a free day out at the Nation’s year-round place to Remember.

Animals in Remembrance: Craft Sessions (Free, 12pm – 3pm, 17 – 21 February)
Families are invited to get creative with animal-inspired arts and crafts. Visitors will be able to make a range of animals, as well as their own purple poppies to wear as they explore the Arboretum.

Interactive Storytelling: Arbie and the Magical Lights (Free, Booking Required, 11.30am, 12pm, 12.30pm, 1pm, 2pm, and 2.30pm, 17 – 21 February)
The latest in the Arboretum’s popular interactive storytelling series features the brand-new children’s book, Arbie and the Magical Lights. Follow Arbie, a young fluffy owl who lives at the Arboretum, as he learns why light is magical. Skilled storytellers will guide children through the story, bringing it to life in a fun and engaging way. Booking in advance is required for these sessions to guarantee entry.

Animals in Remembrance Outdoor Trail (£2.50 per person, 10am – 4pm, 15 – 23 February)
Visitors can explore the Arboretum’s 150-acre site through the Animals in Remembrance Outdoor Trail which introduces stories about mascots, mythical creatures, and real animals who served in the Armed Forces. After completing the trail, young visitors can return to the Remembrance Centre for a special treat.

Stick Man Outdoor Trail (Free, 10am – 4pm, Daily)
An enduring family favourite, the iconic Stick Man trail is available daily, with copies of the self-led route free to pick up from the Welcome Desk. Adventure through the mile-long route, finding the wooden sculptures along the way, and help Stick Man on his journey back to the family tree. Suitable footwear and clothing are recommended for a woodland walk.

Outdoor Play Areas
The Arboretum features two outdoor play areas: the Children’s Sensory Play Garden located near the Remembrance Centre, and a second play area with a picnic spot by the Children’s Wood.

“After the success of our previous half-term events, we are excited to offer a new range of fun and educational activities for families this February,” says Rachel Smith, Head of Learning and Participation at the National Memorial Arboretum. “Whether your family loves creative activities, storytelling, or exploring the great outdoors, there’s something for everyone at the Arboretum this half term.”
