Raring2go! review of ‘Myfirst Fone R2’ – The ultimate all-in-one wearable smartwatch designed specifically for kids
My little girl is only 7 years old and she’s already nagging me often for a mobile phone. I imagine I’m not alone in not wanting to give her one for some time yet! So, I’ve been testing out this alternative for us parents to consider. It is a kid’s smartwatch, but also works as a phone and so much more. Here is my review of ‘Myfirst Fone R2’, starting with all of the points that I personally like about it:
- It has encouraged my daughter to learn how to tell the time. I think she’s been capable of this for some time, but just needed some sort of encouragement to actually do it, and this fancy watch was just the thing!
- It is a great starter ‘phone’. She can’t just add any phone number in, it has to be monitored through myself and everything goes through an app on my own phone. The app is called ‘myFirst Circle’. I can add on family members and link it to the watch, to whom she can then call (and receive calls), also send messages, emojis and photos.
- Yes, it is a camera as well! Just on selfie mode, but let’s face it – that’s what the kids mostly use it for! And it is 5MP with a wide-angle lens. This means that video calling is an additional feature.
- You don’t have to have a monthly phone plan (but you can)… you can simply use it whenever you have WiFi available.
- It is water resistant, so if you’d like to take it on holiday like we recently did, you don’t have to worry too much about getting water damage.
As my daughter is only 7, she’s not yet going anywhere without me or her Dad, but I think the watch is a design that will be liked very much by older kids too and for this reason, the following two features are great! –
- The watch not only has GPS tracking, but it also has an SOS button which is linked to my phone!
And then there is still more for your child to enjoy:
- There is a choice of straps/designs that you can purchase. And you can change the background screen on the watch as often as you like; with either photos or a selection of styles already uploaded.
- You can play music from it! (To add music, you have to have music uploaded to your laptop/computer, and then you can transfer it onto the watch). Lily loves this feature!
- It has a built-in pedometer and heart rate monitor, so if you as a parent, or an older sibling, have a smartwatch and use this feature often, they can join in some fitness with you. My daughter has quite enjoyed using that a bit too.
There are still more features; to keep both the child and parents happy. Tp include lots of safety features, so definitely a great choice for younger kids.
A couple of things to consider/remember if you purchase:
- It comes with so many features, and so few set-up instructions, it does take you a while to figure it all out! But you do get there with a bit of time and concentration.
- When you place it to charge, the cable end attached to the back of the watch face does easily move, so make sure it is connected.
