An Adventure Day at the Tees Barrage & Air Trail, Stockton-on-Tees
Tonnes of fun in the water & on dry land!
Robyn (14), Jack (12) & Halena (10) tested out an action packed multi-activity day with Tees Active.
The day started at 08:45 with registration & introduction to their leader Kyle.
The seven group members were straight into wet suits for some team building fun with paddles to break the ice & then out onto the water for a canoe trip up the Tees to Stockton. Our intrepid crew paddled all the way to the Princess of Wales Bridge before turning back for a well-earned rest and lunch.
“I loved the canoeing. It was tiring but really good fun. I liked paddling up the river and Kyle was nice and kept us all going.” Hally aged 10
Following lunch (a packed lunch or from the onsite café) the young adventurers took to the sky for an hour of fun on the Air Trail high ropes course, which is set over 4 levels and reaches to an impressive 18 meters. Lots of challenges to navigate and two zip rails. The youngsters had no problems walking a narrow plank high up in the air! You are attached at all times and don’t have to follow a designated route and can be as brave (or not) as you like. There is space for individuals to go at their own pace and no waiting at platforms.
Undeterred by a down pour midsession, our climbers loved flying through the air.
“This was one of my favourite bits of the day. I love climbing and zipping.” Hally aged 10.
After that it was wetsuits on again and a lesson in stand-up paddle boarding followed by raft building – a lot of splashing fun was had transporting water in a holey container from one side of the lake to the other!
More giggles followed when Kyle brought out an inflatable dinghy which was upturned & used as a water slide. The dinghy was righted and next used as a platform for jumping in!
“I really enjoyed all the day but the river bits were my favourite. I like being in the water and the wetsuits kept us warm. I liked sliding across the dinghy – I even managed to do a handstand on one of the paddle boards before falling in!” Jack aged 12.
“What a fabulous family day. The kids had a ball. I loved the way that kids are encouraged to be kids – to climb, to jump and swim in the river and my two kids loved every minute. Kyle was an absolute star, with bags of energy to match the kids. The kids were encouraged to push their boundaries and have a go. There’s a great café (I can recommend the coffee and home-made cake) and plenty of dog walking in the area to pass the time if you’re staying whilst the kids are having fun.
By the end of the day I took two very tired, but happy, kids back to Scarborough. I will be spreading the word along the Yorkshire coast to visit the Tees Barrage – it was great fun and excellent value for money. Jack can’t wait to be 14 to have a go on the white-water rafting.” Tracy, Jack and Hally’s Mum.
The day finishes at 4.45 when the adventurers are returned to their parents.
Kyles leadership of the group was excellent & all the friendly staff on site were very helpful.
