Solihull Young Dancers - Ballet and Tap

Solihull Young Dancers - Ballet and Tap

At Solihull Young Dancers we teach Ballet and Tap following the IDTA syllabus which focuses on strong technique whilst retaining an element of fun to keep the pupils engaged at all times.

We pride ourselves on preparing and inspiring our students to pass their exams with flying colours. A large percentage of our students consistently achieve 'Honours' and 'Distinctions' as a result of their determination and hard work, mirroring the ethos of the dedicated teaching team.

All students are part of our bi-annual large scale productions at The Core Theatre, Solihull. This is a fantastic opportunity for children to experience the thrill of performing on stage, and to understand the discipline, hard work and team spirit that goes into making a successful show. Past shows include The Adventures of Alice in Wonderland, The Adventures of Mary Poppins, The Wonderful Wizard Of Oz and The Little Princess.

Ballet

This is the core of what Solihull Young Dancers do.

Ballet is a fun, yet challenging activity that has endless benefits for children. Being one of the most physically demanding of all dance styles, it is a wonderful way for children to gain strength, improve flexibility and stay fit. It teaches them how to stand correctly and walk with grace and poise - qualities that will be of benefit to them for years to come, even if they choose to explore other activities.

At Solihull Young Dancers (SYD) we follow the International Dance Teachers Association Syllabus IDTA. They are one of the world’s largest examination boards, covering the full spectrum of dance styles on a global scale, with over 7,000 members in 55 countries. The IDTA is keen to promote a high teaching standard and the technique of Ballet alongside capturing the dance quality and musicality of the Art.

The age ranges are a guide line which we are given and are based around the maturity a child needs to undertake the demands of the Grade.

Alongside the technique of the Ballet Grades we also undertake the Ballet Medals to ensure that dance and performance is developed and enjoyed.

Tap

Tap dancing is a style of dance that anyone can learn, regardless of previous dance experience. The students just love making a noise!!

Tap dancing is beneficial in many ways, building strength in the legs and feet in addition to increasing flexibility in the hips, knees and ankles. Cognitive abilities are also enhanced, as tap dancers must develop both mental and muscle memory to become proficient at tapping.

At Solihull Young Dancers we offer children's classes from the age of 4 upwards.

We follow the IDTA Medals (Juvenile, Preliminary, Bronze, Silver, Gold and the Gold Bars) which work alongside the technique of the grade but are more danced based to encourage style and performance.

In 2017 we have introduced and started work on the Tap Grades, to provide students with a more technical understanding. Starting with the Preparatory and Primary Grades we look forward to moving forward to the more senior Grades soon.

We also undertake the Tap Rosettes and Tap Team Awards.

Best of all it is FUN!!
