The Commandery, Worcester
Encounter the past brought to life in a beautiful building with an 800-year history. Set in the heart of historic Worcester, The Commandery is most famous for being the Royalist Headquarters during the deciding battle of the English Civil War – the Battle of Worcester 1651.
Discover Worcester’s Civil War Story, an interactive experience that will take you back over 350 years into a murky, conflicted 17th century Worcester of fiery debates. Experience life as a soldier 300 miles from home, test your skills at battle strategy and come face-to-face with Oliver Cromwell.
The Commandery is the perfect place for a family day out – get to know your fearsome weapons, get stuck into our historic displays or become a Commandery explorer in our gardens.
The gardens look out onto Fort Royal Park, so why not combine the two for a great day out? Follow the Fort Royal Memory Trail and watch the videos by scanning QR codes hidden around the park.
Commandery Coffee is a local, independent artisan coffee shop. Situated within the historic Commandery, along with seats in the beautiful canal-side garden, enjoy artisan coffee, loose leaf teas, and a delicious range of homemade food including gluten free and vegan options.
Activities for Children:
Keep an eye on out The Commandery website for what’s coming up each school holiday – there’s a whole host of sensory activities, terrific trails and stupendous events each year. There’s also plenty of outdoor spaces to have a run around – make sure you try out the messy ‘mud kitchen’ in the enclosed gardens.
Then enjoy a hot chocolate or babyccino in the canal-side café and find plenty of pocket-money priced things in the gift shop.
