Wythenshawe Games is a long-standing and well-loved event that has been part of Wythenshawe Calendar for more than ten years. Offering a whole heap of free sports and activities the Games is designed to unite and energize people of all ages in and around Wythenshawe.

The Games was originally launched as a legacy of the 2012 London Olympic and Paralympic Games, and since then has been delivered in a range of formats, and only lost one year during lockdown.

Initially a single event in Wythenshawe Park, Wythenshawe Games now offers two pop-up festivals in Wythenshawe Park and Hollyhedge Park, alongside an annual 10km all-terrain run.

The Games offers sports and activities from archery and skateboarding to dance and parkour, providing fun for people of all ages.

This year’s festival takes place Friday to Sunday over two weekends during the summer holidays:

  • Wythenshawe Park, 26 – 28 July
  • Hollyhedge Park, 9 – 11 August

Family activities take place each day from 11am – 3pm, with Fridays including a focus for under 5s, along with a range of community stalls adding to the offer.

2024 also sees the addition of some new programming. Saturday 27th July 4pm – 7pm will see a special youth programme in Wythenshawe Park for young people aged 11-19, whilst Saturday 10th August 3pm – 5pm will see a Gentle Fitness afternoon for those wanting to keep active but take things a bit easier. The Gentle Fitness programme will include activities such as tai chi, alongside walking sports and other activities.

The annual This Girl Can day will take place on Sunday 28th July in Wythenshawe Park, sponsored by Manchester Airport, has a focus on encouraging women and girls to get more active and try new sports. Of course, everyone is welcome to join in!

Wednesday 24th July sees a partnership with local learning disability charity Better Things for an inclusive sports day at Woodhouse Park Lifestyle centre, where lunch is provided to participants alongside a range of inclusive sports and activities.

There really is something for everyone at Wythenshawe Games, so make sure you don’t miss out this summer!
