Creepy Scientist Skulls Trail (30 Oct – 3 Nov)
Explore the museum and see if you can spot the headstones or skulls of famous scientists.
Be inspired by the quotes and facts accompanying the creepy headstones or skulls. Don’t forget to keep count of how many you find!
Then, pop back to the ticket desk on Level 0 to collect your spooky sticker as a reward.
Spooky Stay and Play (30 Oct – 3 Nov)
Join us in The Den inside MiniBrum for a sensory play session.
Stay and Play encourages little ones to enjoy creative, interactive and sensory play with lots of different colours, lights, textures and sounds to explore.
Our Spooky Stay and Play is a light-hearted child friendly celebration of autumn and Hallowe’en.
Designed for little ones aged 18 months to 3 years to play, explore and experience STEM learning with a parent or caregiver.
Drop-in to the Den on Level 3 of Thinktank between 10.30-12noon between Monday 30th October and Friday 3rd November.
Fright Night at the Museum Family Show (30 Oct – 3 Nov)
Prepare for a monstrous show full to the brim with freaky facts and spooky science.
Showing off some of our favourite live science experiments, this family show has something for visitors of all ages.
Event information
- Join us in the Theatre on Level 3 of Thinktank.
- Shows at 11.30am – 12.00pm and 1pm – 1.30pm on weekdays between Monday 30th October and Friday 3rd November.
- Included in the admission price.
Spooky Spider String Maze (30 Oct – 3 Nov)
Oh no, our classrooms have been taken over by spiders!
Do you think you can find your way through the mazes created by the spiders’ webs? Be careful, don’t get caught in the webs!
(Disclaimer: don’t worry, the spiders aren’t real!)
Event information
- Enter through Curie Classroom on Level 1.
- Drop-in from 1.30pm-3pm, Monday 30th October – Friday 3rd November.
- Adults will be able to accompany children into the classrooms.
- This activity involves climbing and crawling through the spider maze, so may not be accessible to some visitors.
Spooky Shadow Puppets (30 Oct – 3 Nov)
Do you every feel like your being followed, by your shadow?
Isn’t it fascinating how it follows your every move. Why is your shadow very long sometimes, and other times very short? In this activity, you will make your own spooky shadow puppet and explore how you can change the shape or size of its shadow. If you like, you can even create your own spooky shadow play!
Event information
- Drop in between 2:30pm – 4:00pm.
- On Level 1 in the Handling Hub.
- Age 6 plus
Spooky Science Family Night (31 October)
Join us for our annual Spooky Science Family Night as part of Thinktank, Birmingham’s Halloween Events! Explore the museum after dark, take part in spooky activities on each of our floors and even have your photo taken in our Photo Studio. Fancy dress is optional.
Have a go:
- At finding your way through our spooky maze. Don’t get caught in the spider’s web!
- Make your own spooky shadow puppet and bring your creations to life in creating your own spooky puppet show.
- Try your hand at surgery with the classic game ‘Operation’ but life-sized!
- Get a hands on experience with lots of creepy objects from our collection.
- Explore Minibrum: our under 8’s gallery and discover our different play zones.
- Visit our Planetarium for some chill out time and experience the fascinating Northern lights – without having to leave Birmingham!
- Take part in a Walking Tour of level 0 with Wind Swept Workshops, find out what spooky stories our hidden within our objects.
- Finally, in the Theatre: Be amazed by our creepy live science demonstrations in our Fright At The Museum Family Show.
