RHS Bridgewater Great Woodland Adventure this Summer

Go wild in the woods at RHS Bridgewater this summer! Head to our woodland basecamp for six weeks of hands-on fun and outdoor challenges, from epic den building and forest school workshops to woodland crafts, tree climbing, fire making and much more. With family trails, explorer walks and storytime for little adventurers, too.

Garden admission applies; free to RHS members and children under 5. Children aged 516 just £5.

The Big Den Build*

Thursday 7 – Saturday 9 August
Bookable 90-minute sessions at 10am, 11.45am, 2pm and 3.45pm, Victoria Meadow

Unleash your imagination with an epic building challenge! Join Woodland Tribe, the UK experts in constructive play, and together with your fellow adventurers build a giant woodland adventure castle.

Ages 4+ (must be accompanied by an adult).

Dreamcatcher crafts

Friday 25 July and Wednesday 6 August
Drop-in sessions at 11am – 1pm and 2pm – 3.30pm, location tbc

Make your own dreamcatcher to take home – a perfect memento from your woodland adventure.

Ages 3+ (must be accompanied by an adult). There may be a queue at busy times.

Sunflower planting

Wednesday 23, Monday 28 July and Monday 4 August
Drop-in sessions at 11am – 1pm and 2pm – 3.30pm, Woodland Basecamp

Plant your own sunflower and learn how to help it grow tall and strong – a sunny keepsake from your visit.

Ages 3+ (must be accompanied by an adult). There may be a queue at busy times.

Wild Wings: Birds of prey encounters

Thursday 24, Tuesday 29 July and Tuesday 5 August
Drop in 10am – 4pm, Learning Studios

Meet majestic birds of prey and owls up close, and discover what makes these woodland creatures so remarkable.

Ages 5+ (must be accompanied by an adult). There may be a queue at busy times.

Tree climbing*

Wednesday 30 July – Friday 1 August
Bookable 1-hour sessions from 10am – 5pm

Climb safely in the treetops with the help of expert instructors. A thrilling way to see the garden from a whole new perspective! Meet at the woodland marquee 10 minutes before your session.

Ages 6+ (must be accompanied by an adult).

Little explorers: Wildlife spotting walk*

Wednesday 30 July, Thursday 14, Wednesday 20 and Thursday 28 August
Bookable sessions at 11am, 12.15pm and 1.30pm

This 40-minute gentle guided nature walk encourages young children to spot wildlife. Meet outside the Welcome Building.

Ages 2–6 (must be accompanied by an adult).

Forest School

Mondays – Fridays, 11 – 29 August ​(excluding Monday 25 August)

Experience the magic of outdoor learning with activities guided by expert forest school leaders, from crafting with natural materials to learning bushcraft skills.

All activities take place at the Woodland Basecamp.

Drop-in woodland crafts

Drop-in session at 10.30am–11.30am
Have a go at some wonderful woodland projects, including leaf bashing, weaving and nature sewing. No need to book – there may be a queue at busy times.
All ages (must be accompanied by an adult)

Craft workshops*

Bookable sessions at 12–12.30pm and 12.30pm–1pm
Make clay creatures, worry dolls, and other take-home treasures using traditional forest techniques. Try a different activity each day.

Fire making workshops*

Bookable sessions at 1.30pm–2.15pm and 2.15pm–3pm
Learn how to safely build and strike your own fire, and then make popcorn over the flames.
Ages 8–12 (must be accompanied by an adult).

Tools workshops*

Bookable sessions at 3.15pm–4pm and 4pm–4.45pm
Learn how to use real tools and create a wooden object, like a gnome or mallet, with guided support.

Woodland storytime*

Bookable session at 5pm–5.30pm
Join us for an enchanting woodland tale, then have a go at sawing your own wooden story disc to take home.

Self-guided adventures

Summer escape hunt

Daily, Wednesday 23 July – Sunday 31 August
10am – 6pm

Embark on the ultimate woodland adventure! Solve the puzzles, find the hidden locations and collect all the stamps while uncovering the secrets of the woodland in this exciting self-led treasure trail.

Ages 3+ (must be accompanied by an adult)

Habitat trail

Daily, Wednesday 23 July – Sunday 31 August
10am – 6pm

Follow the trail to discover threatened animal species and find out how you can help support them in your garden and local area.

Tremendous trees trail

Daily, Wednesday 23 July – Sunday 31 August
10am – 6pm

Explore the world of mighty trees! Discover which tree lives the longest, grows the tallest, or has the most fascinating story. Most importantly… which is your favourite? A peaceful and educational trail for all ages.
