October Half Term at Thinktank, Birmingham
There is lots of family fun planned at Thinktank, Birmingham this October Half Term.
24 October – 1 November: Lego Coding & AI Workshop
Is it magic, or is it computer science? (It’s both!)
Thinktank is thrilled to introduce brand-new, next-generation Computer Science & AI kits direct from LEGO® Education. In this fun-filled 50-minute hands-on session, families will explore building and coding smart machines, and using kid-safe, age-appropriate AI featuring privacy-first technology like auto-blurred camera images. Discover how real-world coding can feel just like casting a spell!
Event Information:
- This is a ticketed event. Tickets are available online as an add-on activity when you purchase your admission tickets.
- Workshops run daily during October half term (Saturday 24th October – Sunday 1st November) at 10:45am, 12pm, 1:45pm and 3pm.
- Workshops will be held in The Studio, Level 2 (through the yellow door in the picnic area).
- Workshops run for 1 hour (50 minutes building time + 10 minutes tidy-up time).
- Each ticket admits one child and their accompanying adult sharing one LEGO kit (additional child tickets are available).
- One adult may supervise up to three children (additional children will need additional child tickets)
Pre-booking is strongly advised.
26 October: Watch out for the Witches
Watch out! Two giant pink witches are on the loose at Thinktank this Halloween.
These larger-than-life learner witches are still getting the hang of their magical powers. Attempting to fly, scaring unsuspecting visitors, and remembering their spells can all prove a little tricky, with plenty of mishaps and magical mayhem along the way.
Keep an eye on the witches roaming around Thinktank as they cause mischief and try their best to master the art of being a witch.
These wonderfully silly witches are perfect for adding a little Halloween magic to your family day out.
Event Information
- Walkabout times: 11am, 1pm, and 3pm.
- The witches will be roaming all around Thinktank, so keep your eyes peeled to find them!
- This walkabout is included in your admission ticket. There is no need to book separately.
26 – 30 October: Magic Mayhem Science Show
Science and magic collide in this fun-filled Halloween science show! Join one of our resident Thinktank science witches as they take you through some enchanting experiments. Expect astonishing demonstrations, magical mishaps and plenty of opportunities to get involved too!
Event Information:
- Join us in the Theatre on Level 3 of Thinktank
- Weekdays during October half term (Monday 26th – Friday 30th October)
- Shows at 11.30am, 1pm, and 3pm.
- Shows last approximately 30 minutes.
- Included in the admission price.
No booking is required for this event, but we recommend that visitors pre-book an admission ticket, particularly at busy times such as weekends and school holidays.
28 October: Wizard Bubble Shields
Meet the team of STEM experts from Youth Evolution as they reveal the fascinating science behind things that seem like magic!
Step inside the Wizard’s bubble shield, an interactive giant bubble experience where you can become surrounded by a shimering bubble while discovering the science of surface tension, soap molecule, colours and shapes. Expect impressive demonstrations, giant bubbles and plenty of magical ‘wow’ moments along the way.
Families can also explore more hands-on magical science, including Floating Spell Scrolls, where drawings and symbols appear to magically float away before your eyes.
Get involved, ask questions and discover the real science behind the magic with the Youth Evolution team.
Perfect for curious minds of all ages, this fun and interactive experience brings together science, discovery and a little bit of magic.

30 October: Meet the Science Magician
Dr Matt Pritchard, the Science Magician, combines his passion for STEM with the wonder of magic to create unforgettable experiences. Through a unique blend of spectacular illusions, exciting experiments, and interactive demonstrations, he reveals the fascinating science behind the seemingly impossible.
From mind-bending physics to astonishing experiments , Dr Matt inspires curiosity, encourages discovery, and shows that science is every bit as magical as it is real. Whether you’re a budding scientist or simply love a good mystery, prepare to be amazed as science and magic come together!

Four drop in sessions will take place throughout the day, with each session running approximately 30-40 minutes.

30 November: Spooky Cinema – Hocus Pocus
This Halloween, the Thinktank Planetarium’s 360° dome will whisk you into the stars for a cosmic celebration filled with friendly frights and interstellar fun. Snuggle into your seat and enjoy a specially chosen space-themed film
Hocus Pocus is a 1993 fantasy comedy in which three witches return to Salem three hundred years after their execution.

Main Thinktank doors are open from 4pm.
Please enter the museum from Level 0, the Thinktank Main Entrance.
Once you’ve presented your tickets at the welcome desk, you’re free to explore the museum before the film.
Planetarium doors open by 4:25pm.
The Planetarium is located on Level 3.
The film starts at 4.30pm.
There are no trailers and the film will start promptly.
It’s difficult for us to admit latecomers, so please aim to arrive with plenty of time to spare!
Pre-booking is essential as places are limited. Seating is unallocated.
This film was not made to be projected in a full-dome format, but we will be using our big cinema screen inside the dome.
