SONIC HOSTS HEDGEHOG BONFIRE SAFETY DAY WITH BEN FOGLE
Families are invited to come and learn how to have a hedgehog friendly Bonfire Night with the British Hedgehog Preservation Society, Ben Fogle and SEGA
24 OCTOBER, LONDON, UK — Video games giant SEGA, The British Hedgehog Preservation Society and Ben Fogle are holding a fun family education day to raise awareness of hedgehog welfare on Bonfire Night.
Families are invited to the free event that will take place at Camley Street Natural Park in London on the 27th October 2022, during October half-term. It will be an opportunity for all of the family to learn about how to safeguard this much-loved creature. The event will include meet and greets with Sonic The Hedgehog, and information from renowned hedgehog expert and author Hugh Warwick about hedgehog welfare and advocacy.
Ben Fogle will also be on hand to engage with families, discuss his love of nature, and in particular hedgehogs! Ben is an award-winning broadcaster and adventurer. He has written 9 Sunday Times Best selling books and is the United Nations Patron of the Wilderness. He has presented numerous programmes for the BBC, ITV, C5 and Discovery including the hit series New Lives in the Wild. Ben’s career has spanned over 20 years, having firstly found himself on BBC’s first reality TV show “Castaway”. His love of adventure home and abroad is paramount to all aspects of his life and career.
There will also be a host of Sonic The Hedgehog-themed activities, including a Sonic treasure hunt, drawing competition, clay hedgehog modelling, pond dipping and an exclusive chance to play the new Sonic Frontiers video game before it even hits the shelves on 8th November 2022.
Bonfires and hedgehogs
The event is taking place to coincide with the launch of Sonic Frontiers but to also raise awareness of how each year hedgehogs are at risk of being injured, hurt and even killed as we celebrate bonfire night.
Log piles used for bonfires provide the perfect shelter for hedgehogs as they begin to look for places to hibernate and stay warm and dry. But, unintentionally, this puts them in danger as pre-prepared bonfires are set alight. Charities, such as the British Hedgehog Preservation Society, raise awareness of how to make sure hedgehogs are kept safe each bonfire night.
