Pumpkin Flotilla (27 – 29 Oct)

See the Sarehole Pumpkins float on the mill pond as the light fades in this magical Halloween event.

Join our Witchfinders on the hunt for unusual goings on down at the Mill this Halloween!

With rumoured sightings of jack o lanterns and the infamous Sarehole will-o-the-wisp luring travellers onto the still waters of the mill-pond – our Witchfinders need your help to root out sorcery this Halloween!

Fun, family friendly performances which celebrate the wonderful history of Sarehole Mill and the magical spookiness of the Halloween season!

Activities this year include

  • See the Sarehole pumpkins glide across our millpond
  • The Mill will be open for you to explore at your own pace
  • The Rusticus Witchfinders will entertain with family friendly performances before leading your group to the flotilla.
  • Visit the museum of “Curiosities” and encounter the Keeper of the Curiosities inside the Mill.
  • Take part in a spooky craft activity.
  • Our Tea room will be open to purchase refreshments.
  • If you do bring in a pumpkin you can add it to our “Putrid Pumpkin Patch” display area for a photo opportunity
  • This event will last two hours and timeslots are 5pm – 7pm and 7.15pm – 9.15pm

Spooky Mill Tours (28 Oct – 3 Nov)

Celebrate Halloween at Sarehole Mill with our Family Spooky Mill Tours.

Get set for a spooky guided tour of our historic watermill. With nearly 200 years of history there are bound to be some ghosts hiding in the rafters!

On your tour you will discover the history of the site and some local ghost stories. Hear about the ‘white ogre’ that used to scare famous writer J.R.R Tolkien as a small boy.

Fancy dress optional but welcomed!

Event Information

  • Family tours are recommended for children aged 5+. Younger children will need close supervision and support moving between floors.
  • Tours last approximately 1 hour.
  • Two floors of the Mill are accessible for wheelchairs and pushchairs but the rest of the Mill is accessed only by steep wooden stairs. Please contact us in advance with any access requirements.
  • Tickets must be purchased for each adult and child attending. Prices are the same for adults and children.
  • You are welcome to explore the grounds at your leisure from 11am – 4pm.
Optional extra

We have Pizza in the Courtyard available from 12pm – 3pm, pre-book your table to avoid disappointment.

Spooky Comic Book Workshop (1 Nov)

Celebrate Halloween at Sarehole Mill with our spooky fantasy comic book workshop.

This two hour session will begin with a brief tour of the Sarehole Mill grounds as we hear a few spooky stories about the local area. We’ll then guide you through the fundamentals of story telling and comic book techniques that will help you tell your own unique and engaging story. Theme your story for Halloween, what spooky tales can you come up with?

Use collage, watercolour and ink to create vibrant and exciting pictures to imagine impossible and fantastic worlds and adventures. All materials provided and your creations are yours to take home at the end of the workshop.

Event Information

  • This workshop will involve a short walk around the grounds so sensible footwear is advised. Indoor activity takes place in an accessible space.
  • Children must be accompanied by an adult.
  • The session will be relaxed and informal, neurodivergent children are very welcome. Contact us in advance about any physical access needs and we will do our best to accommodate.
