Half-term at Black Country Living Museum

Half-term at Black Country Living Museum

Sweet or savoury? Sugar or spice? What’s your flavour?

This half term at Black Country Living Museum, bring the whole family to take a trip down memory lane and reminisce about sweet treats and flavours from times gone by.

Join in the family discovery trail to awaken your senses, meet new historic characters and explore the period shops and houses in our historic town.

Meet our historic character, Surinder Kaur as she’s preparing a delicious meal. Chat about the world spice trade and find out what was newly in demand here during the 1950s.

Meet the 1930s Ice-cream seller and take part in our family-friendly crafts where you can learn how to transform a piece of paper into a delicious looking ice cream of your own.

See the popular historic sweets in the Black Country, learn about the boom of the sugar industry and the impact of rationing. Don’t forget to do the all-important taste test!

Mind those sweet tooths as there are no dentists about! Pop into our Edwardian chemist to discover terrible tales of teeth and what alternative they would have prescribed as toothpaste. Learn about the medicinal properties of herbs and spices, grown and cut from our very own gardens.

Stroll down to the canalside to find out how the flavours we know and love today arrived in Britain.

Help the boatman as there has been a muddle with the shipments and they need to identify the spice and match it to the country of origin.

Sugar or Spice?  What do you think will be the most loved around town?

Follow our family discovery trail to find out.

Not forgetting… all your usual favourite things that make up a fantastic family day out at the Museum:
