Durham Christmas Markets

Here comes Christmas – and here comes the perfect shopping event! 

Christmas is coming … and so is Durham Christmas Festival from Friday 1st to Sunday 3rd December, 2023.  Feel the festive spirit and tick loads off the Christmas shopping list with a visit to this fabulous festival!  

For shoppers, there are three festive markets; the Craft & Producers’ Marquee* on Palace Green packed with gift ideas, seasonal food and drink and handcrafted items; the Festive Outdoor Market in Durham Market Place which is great for gifts and warming take-away food and drink, and Durham Market Hall, home to 40 businesses all ready to welcome Christmas shoppers! 

For families, the Children’s Lantern Parade**, on Saturday 2nd December, is a festive treat, when hundreds of children carrying lanterns will lead their families up through the city as the light fades, arriving at Durham Cathedral for the St Nicholas Service.
