The go-to guide for you and your child

The National Holocaust Museum

A Child. A Journey. A Lesson for Today.

The National Holocaust Museum is the only museum in the UK dedicated to Holocaust education for primary-aged children. Our award-winning Journey exhibition, newly redeveloped with a £3 million investment, offers a unique and sensitive way for families to explore this important history together.

Designed for children aged 9+, The Journey follows Leo, a young Jewish boy living in 1930s Berlin. As Leo faces increasing persecution under Nazi rule, children follow his story through immersive reconstructions of his home, school, and street, and witness his escape to safety on the Kindertransport. Leo’s fictional journey is based on real survivor testimonies.

This powerful, age-appropriate experience helps children explore themes of prejudice, identity, and belonging. It also opens up discussion about moral choices and how we treat others—connecting the past with issues children recognise today, including the experiences of modern refugees.

During your visit, your family will engage with interactive exhibits, handle genuine historical artefacts, and hear moving survivor testimony through recorded or live presentations. All our educators are former teachers, specially trained to support children’s understanding and respond to their questions with sensitivity and care.

The Journey is an unforgettable opportunity for families to learn together, ask big questions, and reflect on the importance of kindness, courage and standing up for others.

Join us this summer at The National Holocaust Museum, and take part in a learning experience that will stay with your child for life.
