Make a Window Kite
Change your colour scheme and your embellishments or make a selection of sizes to get a whole new look. When the sun shines through your windows they look just like stained glass!
Large window kite
Draw a kite shape on some sticky back plastic and then carefully cut it out.
Cut about 15 - 2O small squares from purple coloured tissue paper and then from pink, light and dark blue tissue paper.
Carefully peel off the sticky backing paper from the kite shape. Place the tissue paper squares all over the kite in a random pattern â don't worry if the tissue paper pieces overlap each other or hang over the edges of the kite shape. Once you have stuck all the tissue pieces down, trim the excess tissue from around the kite.
Cut four 1.5cm wide strips of purple funky foam to fit around the edge of the kite and glue these to the front side to make a border â this makes the kite strong as well as looking good.
Place two more funky foam strips in a cross shape in the centre of the kite. Use black, red and purple marker pens to draw decorations over the foam strips.
To make a tail for the kite, attach a long piece of ribbon to the bottom of the kite. Cut three different sized funky foam bow shapes. Glue the largest foam bow to the bottom of the kite and attach the smaller two bows underneath.
Decorate the kite with some coloured buttons and any other decorations you want. Why not add some glitter to sparkle in the sun?
To hang the kite, cut a piece of ribbon and make it into a loop. Attach it to the back at the top of the kite. Finally, hang the kite in front of a window for the sun to shine through!
Mini window kites
Why not make some mini kites for the window too? You could use these alone or add to your window along with the larger kites for a sky filled with lots of lovely colours.
Cut out a smaller kite shape from sticky back plastic. You could try cutting a different shape of kite like a heart, or even a balloon or be really adventurous and try a dinosaur or even a pirate's skull and crossbones.
This time either cover the whole kite with one colour of tissue paper or cover half in one colour and half in another.
To finish, add some little ribbon tails and decorate the edges with patterned craft tape, buttons and ribbon bows.
