Make your own…Rainbow Wind Catcher

Activities

A rainbow wind catcher is an easy craft that looks great hanging in a window, garden, or bedroom.

You’ll Need

  • 1 paper plate (or a cardboard circle)
  • Paint, crayons, or markers
  • Ribbon, crepe paper, tissue paper strips, or yarn in rainbow colours
  • Hole punch
  • String
  • Scissors
  • Glue or tape

Instructions

  1. Make the rainbow
  • Cut the centre out of a paper plate, leaving a ring about 2–3 cm wide.
  • Decorate the ring with rainbow colours.
  • Let any paint dry completely.
  1. Add the streamers
  • Cut strips of ribbon, crepe paper, or tissue paper.
  • Glue or tape them to the bottom half of the ring.
  • Use a mix of red, orange, yellow, green, blue, and purple strips.
  • Make some strips longer than others for a flowing effect.
  1. Create a hanging loop
  • Punch two holes near the top of the ring.
  • Thread a piece of string through the holes and tie it into a loop.
  1. Hang it up
  • Hang it near a window, on a porch, or from a tree branch.
  • Watch the colourful streamers dance in the breeze.
