Our Day at Lichfield Maize Maze & Pumpkin Patch
We were invited to spend a day at Lichfield Maize Maze and Pumpkin Patch this October. Lily came home with a haul of pumpkins, a very full tummy and a big thumbs up for the whole day! Here’s what we thought –
First stop: the mini maze
The smaller maze was the perfect way to get us into the maze-solving spirit without throwing us straight into the deep end! There’s a ‘Bug Out’ trail within this maze, where we learnt about rainforest bugs that neither me nor my mom (aka Granny!) had ever heard of before. Lily enjoyed trying to work out which 2 of the 10 bug stickers didn’t belong – you only needed 8 to complete the trail.
Then it was time for one of the things we’d been looking forward to most…
Pumpkin picking!
We headed off in search of the hidden pumpkin patch! You can choose a wheelbarrow or a sledge to take around with you, with a selection of colours to choose from. We thought this was a bit different – and very cute! There are also spooky Halloween scenes dotted along the way, both before you reach the pumpkins and after, which makes exploring the patch even more fun.
There were pumpkins in just about every colour, size and quirky shape you can imagine. Some were tiny, some were huge, and there were plenty of unusual ones that looked very different from the traditional orange pumpkin.
Lily was VERY happy with her haul! (You’ll have to take a peek at our video!)
Photo Ops 💜
There are plenty of photo opportunities on the way around. And just after the pumpkin patch, we had to stop for a little go on the most beautiful autumnal swing!
Then it was time for the BIG maze…
After a bite to eat (There’s a choice of 3 food venders there), we headed into the big maze.
I have to admit, I was quite pleased to discover that you get a map. I love a good maze, but I’m very good at getting lost in them!
There’s also a ‘Deadly Defence’ trail to complete as you make your way through the big maze, all about rainforest animals and the different ways they defend themselves. Lily loved trying to guess which animal matched each defence, then having to find the post in the maze to see if she’d got it right!
It definitely wasn’t a quick wander through. It took us around an hour to complete, so by the time we made it out, we were more than ready for a rest. Luckily, there was a HUGE chair waiting for us! (Don’t forget, you can watch our video to help visualise all of this!) And then came the perfect reward for all that maze-solving… toasted marshmallows.
There’s more than just the mazes
One of the things I really liked about Lichfield Maize Maze is that the mazes and pumpkin patch aren’t the only things to do.
There are lots of games and toys dotted around, so there are plenty of opportunities for children to stop, play and let off some steam between activities.
For our visit, despite it being October, there were still some really pretty, colourful flowers around the site too. Definitely a perk of going earlier in the month – plus, it was less crowded and we got first pick of the pumpkins!
So whether your children are there for the pumpkins, love getting lost in a maze, want to play, or just love running around outdoors, there’s plenty to keep them entertained.
