It takes a village to raise a child, and Leicester City Council is looking for more people to join theirs.
Right now, over 600 children and young people in Leicester are in care, many living with foster families. If you’ve ever wondered whether you could offer a child that kind of stability, this is worth a closer look.
Fostering with the council means local support for local children – kids stay near their schools, their friends, and wherever possible, their siblings. Carers come from all walks of life, and that’s the point: different backgrounds mean better matches for the children who need them.
Here’s what you can expect as a Leicester foster carer:
You choose the age group and type of fostering that suits you, and you don’t even need to live in Leicester itself. Carers are welcomed from across the city, the county, Rutland and beyond. You’ll be paid fostering allowances, with extra for holidays, birthdays and festivals, plus recognition payments for skills and commitment.
A dedicated Supervising Social Worker has your back throughout, backed up by a 24-hour support line, so you’re never on your own. Training is ongoing, in person and online – and there’s even the option to work towards an NVQ in fostering. And because referrals come straight to the council first, in-house carers get first refusal before any outside agency is involved.
