October Half Term at Thinktank, Birmingham

There is lots of spooky space and alien related fun planned at Thinktank, Birmingham this October Half Term.

25 October – 2 November: Lunar LEGO Lab: Alien Edition

Use our WeDo kits to build, program and customise your very own LEGO alien! What will you name your alien creature? What sounds will it make? What distant planet will it explore?

Event Information:
  • Workshops run daily during October half term (Sat 25th October – Sun 2nd Nov) at 10:45am, 12pm, 1:45pm and 3pm.
  • Workshops will be held in The Studio, Level 2
  • Workshops run for 1 hour (50 minutes building time + 10 minutes tidy-up time).
  • This is a ticketed event.
  • Each ticket admits one child and one accompanying adult sharing one Lego WeDo kit.
  • One adult may supervise up to two children (both children will need a ticket)

Pre-booking is strongly advised: tickets are available online as an add-on activity when you purchase your admission tickets.

27 – 31 October: Alien Creation Station

Get hands-on designing your own alien life and the planet your creation lives on.

Our Universe is filled with weird and wonderful worlds, some very different to our own home here on Planet Earth. Help us design what life might look like on other planets and create what this new world might look like from space.

Activity Information:
  • Drop in to Find Your Future on Level 2
  • Activity runs between Monday 27th and Friday 31st October from 11:00am – 12:30pm and 2:00pm – 3:30pm
  • This event is included in the Thinktank entry price.
  • No booking is required for this event, but we recommend that visitors pre-book an admission ticket, particularly at busy times such as school holidays.

27 – 31 October: Galactic Mission – Life Beyond Earth

Is anybody out there?… or could strange creatures be hiding in the dark corners of our galaxy…and even on our own planet?

Get ready for an entertaining, family-friendly science show packed with fiery experiments, glowing creatures, creepy creatures, and astonishing discoveries.

Learn how scientists search for life beyond Earth and meet some of the weirdest, most alien-like animals that live right here among us. Dare to explore the unknown, you might just find that life is stranger than fiction!

Event Information:

  • Join us in the Theatre on Level 3 of Thinktank
  • Weekdays during October half term (Monday 27th – Friday 31st October)
  • Shows at 11.30am1pm, and 3pm.
  • Shows last approximately 30 minutes.
  • Included in the admission price.

31 October: The Roswell’s Halloween Visit

What happens when an alien family sets its holiday destination as planet Earth?

The Roswells have decided that the best place to come to discover more about humans and Planet Earth is Thinktank!

The alien family will be spending their Halloween exploring the museum, taking holiday snaps, playing games and enjoying some Halloween fun.

Make sure you say hello and grab a spooky selfie! They would be more than happy if you joined them, perhaps you could help them understand more about life on Earth?

A sci-fi experience that offers something completely unique, fun filled and ‘out of this world’. The Roswells are ready and waiting to entertain and entrance audiences across the UK. Premiering their first outing at The Shrewsbury Folk Festival The Roswells were a huge hit with adults and children alike. “The highlight of my festival. Brought so much fun to the event!”

31 October: Spooky Cinema – E.T. The Extra Terrestrial

This Halloween, the Thinktank Planetarium’s 360° dome will whisk you into the stars for a cosmic celebration filled with friendly frights and interstellar fun. Snuggle into your seat and enjoy a specially chosen space-themed film

The beloved sci-fi adventure directed by Steven Spielberg follows a lonely young boy named Elliott who discovers and befriends a gentle alien stranded on Earth. Leading to a heartfelt journey of friendship, wonder, and courage as he and his siblings protect E.T. from government agents and help him find a way back to his home planet.

1 November: Alien Head Junk Modelling with Tat Vision

This spooky season, join Birmingham artist Tat Vision at Thinktank Science Museum for some Halloween junk-modelling with an unearthly alien twist

Using recycled materials, you’ll design and create your very own wearable alien head – creepy, kooky, or completely out of this world.

Drop in activity 11am – 3pm in our Find Your Future Gallery on Level 2

1 November: Spooky Cinema – Close Encounters of the Third Kind

This Halloween, the Thinktank Planetarium’s 360° dome will whisk you into the stars for a cosmic celebration filled with friendly frights and interstellar fun. Snuggle into your seat and enjoy a specially chosen space-themed film.

A landmark sci-fi film directed by Steven Spielberg that tells the story of an ordinary man whose life is upended after a mysterious UFO encounter, drawing him—and others who’ve experienced strange visions—into a breathtaking quest that culminates in humanity’s first awe-inspiring contact with extraterrestrial life.
