Free Shakespeare Weekender
Families are invited to Stratford-upon-Avon for a weekend of free performances, live arts, and hands-on crafting to celebrate the end of Shakespeare Week on Saturday 29 and Sunday 30 March 2025.
Families are invited to the Shakespeare Weekender, a free family fun festival on Henley Street inspired by Shakespeare’s fascinating female characters. Marking the end of Shakespeare Week, the annual national celebration of Shakespeare aimed at primary school-aged children organised by Shakespeare Birthplace Trust (SBT).
“We can’t wait to welcome families back to Henley Street for more fun and engaging early experiences with Shakespeare, inspired by The Women Who Made Shakespeare.
‘’From live performances exploring Shakespeare’s female characters and interactive workshops to hands-on activities including costume and puppet making, this weekend is not one to miss.”
Commented Sally Gray, Shakespeare Week Project Manager at the Shakespeare Birthplace Trust.
Families will have the opportunity to witness live performances of some pivotal scenes focusing on Shakespeare’s female characters, including Lady Macbeth, on stage by the talented team from Events from History against the backdrop of the iconic Shakespeare’s Birthplace. There will also be performances from local schools as they showcase the results of their work throughout Shakespeare Week 2025.
Families will also have the opportunity to take part in a range of free, drop-in activities throughout the weekend, including costume and puppet making using recycled and reclaimed materials and face painting inspired by Shakespeare’s mischievous magical friends from the forest of Arden. Additionally, there will be an opportunity to take part in an interactive workshop with SBT’s Lead Secondary Practitioner, Naomi Lawrence.
“Our Shakespeare Weekender is an exciting culmination of the national celebration that is Shakespeare Week. We can’t wait for families to get involved and learn more about Shakespeare’s fascinating and complex characters on the street where the iconic playwright spent his childhood years.”
Added Sally Gray.
This year’s Shakespeare Weekender takes place on Saturday 29 and Sunday 30 March 2025, from 10am to 4pm, on Henley Street, Stratford-upon-Avon. All activities are free to take part in and pre-booking is not required.
