Clickeez Keyboard Review
After writing about ASMR in the magazine, here is my hands-on review of the Clickeez Clickable Collectables Keyboard Mega Pack, along with the 2-Pack and 5-Pack assortments and the Clickeez Keychain.
There are lots of ASMR-style toys out there, but when I was offered the chance to review this one, I was genuinely curious. And I’ll be honest (you might laugh) but clicking clicky buttons is nice! I vividly remember when I was little absolutely loving an old typewriter. I played with it constantly, tapping away at the keys, and it’s one of those toys I look back on very fondly (I’m sounding about 100 years old now… I promise I’m only 40!). That’s exactly the feeling this ‘toy’ gave me – but with the added bonus, for children at least, of the fun of collecting the buttons too.
First Impressions
When my daughter Lily (8) opened the Clickeez Keyboard, she was thrilled – it’s something she’d had her eye on for a while. She isn’t allowed a TV or computer in her bedroom yet, so having a ‘pretend’ keyboard on her new desk feels a bit more grown-up and exciting for her. Before it made it to her room, she took it around family members’ houses on a couple of visits to show it off. And while her play sessions are often short bursts (because it doesn’t actually ‘type’ anything), I keep finding her sitting at her desk, quietly tapping away.
What is the Clickeez Keyboard?
The Clickeez Keyboard Mega Pack is a sturdy keyboard base (plastic – pink and glittery) designed to be filled with small, clickable collectable characters. Each Clickeez makes a satisfying click when pressed, and the idea is that children build up their keyboard over time by adding more pieces.
We started with the Keyboard Mega Pack, Five 2-packs, Two 5-packs, and a Clickeez Keychain
With all of that, the keyboard is still only about 40% complete – which is something parents should definitely be aware of before buying.
The Collecting Side of Things
This is where Clickeez becomes both clever and something to think about.
On the plus side, it works brilliantly if:
-
You like to give small rewards for things like doing well at school
-
Your child gets pocket money and enjoys saving up for things themselves
- You need birthday or gift ideas for multiple family members
Lily doesn’t get pocket money just yet, but she’s at that age where I’m encouraging her to help out around the house. I’m planning to use her desire to complete the keyboard as motivation – so in that sense, it’s not just a calming ASMR toy, but also a collectable that can help encourage good behaviour.
The downside? As with any “collect the set” toy, costs can add up over time, and you may end up with duplicate characters. But this kind of collectable trend is something children absolutely love, and it doesn’t look like it’s going away any time soon.
The Clickeez Keychain
It’s an optional extra if you already have the keyboard, but it’s also a cheaper way to get started if you’re unsure whether your child will love it, or if the keyboard feels like a bigger investment.
The keychain allows children to collect and click just a few of the button characters without committing to the full keyboard, which I think is ideal for younger children, stocking fillers, or small treats. It’s also great for taking out and about – the buttons tend to fall out of the keyboard if you pop it into a bag, and it’s not small, so the keychain is a much more practical option when you’re on the move.
If you do have the keyboard, the keychain still has a place, in addition to the travel perk, as you collect more button characters and inevitably end up with duplicates, it’s a handy place to use them rather than leaving them in a drawer.
Note: You can make a little keychain from the button characters anyway, each 2-pack or 5-pack comes with a small keyring thread.
Our Verdict
The keyboard doesn’t lose its appeal after a week – it stays exciting as children slowly add to it. The clicking is satisfying, the play is calm, and it fits perfectly into quiet-time routines or desk play.
Yes, it’s something you need to commit to if your child really loves it – but that’s also what makes it last. It’s not a toy that’s forgotten at the bottom of the toy box.
As an ASMR-style toy, a collectable, and a tool for calm, focused play, Clickeez Clickable Collectables has earned its place in our house, and I suspect it will be clicking away on Lily’s desk for some time yet.
It’s sold in various UK retailers – but here’s a bit more about it from the creators: Clickeez Mega keyboard – Goliath
