Red House Glass Cone update…

The works on the Cone are due to be completed at the beginning of September, however, the scaffolding is gone!

They will be running a free trial over the summer holidays (theme tbc).  There will also be a number of Fused Glass sessions, craft activities and Tommy’s Treasures events over the whole of the school holidays. Plus the independent Craft Studio businesses will also be running workshops of their own which include pottery workshops, pebble painting and story & craft sessions. Details of the above will be promoted on their Facebook page.

They are also part of the International Festival of Glass over the August Bank Holiday weekend where there will be a number of events onsite from the Cone and the craft studios including glass blowing demonstrations, glass fusing, history talks and free crafts.

The Red House Glass Cone might look like a building site but they are very much very much open for business!

Restoration work is well underway and while there is currently no access inside the cone itself, the visitor centre, studios and canal side area are all open.

Come along this half-term…

Join in during three days of glass fusing fun on  12, 13 and 16 February. Make a dragon or a dinosaur. Places cost £8.75 plus booking fee. Children must be accompanied.

Or join an Adult Chat and Paint session on Friday 23rd February at 10.30 am and 1pm.  This month people can paint a wooden heart in the style of Polish Wycinanki designs

There is also glass fusing for ages 12+ on Sunday 25 February!

The cone will also be offering free trails for children and many of the onsite artist studios will be open for drop in activities, demonstrations and sales. As the studios are independently run they are not open every day, so if there is someone special you want to see, we recommend contacting them direct before your arrival.

Unfortunately, the Red Cone Coffee House has recently shut down, but there are a whole host of businesses there that need your support! You can show this by attending their upcoming Open Day:

⭐️SATURDAY 10th FEBRUARY⭐️
The independent craft studios based at the Red House Glass Cone are coming together for an open day on Saturday 10th February.
Business owners, supported by Adam Davies for Brierley Hill & Wordsley South would like to attract more visitors on site to see what they do and the products and experiences they offer.
Studios will be open across the site, and there will be lots to see and do. Saz’s Ceramics & Crafts will be holding a pop up ‘make and take’ experience with their ceramics pens, priced at £5 per item, and delivering a clay hand building demonstration. Tandem Crafts will be sharing a story time session in their studio, followed by craft time, GLASS QUARTER DESIGNS have a suncatcher workshop taking place and I luv Pebbles based in the Courtyard, will be running ‘paint a pet pebble’ classes for kids. Kirk Andrews Art will be showcasing their work, also in the Courtyard, and Elliot at BlowFish Glass has interactive glass blowing experiences making glass fruit, which can be pre-booked through their website.
Carly Grandini-Williams, General Manager, Saz’s Ceramics & Crafts, says “It is going to be a great opportunity for family & friends to come along to the Cone and see all the incredible skills of our independent artists, and have a go at an activity too!”
Work continues on the refurbishment of the glass cone, with some impressive scaffolding on display, with all studios and the gift shop & visitor centre remaining open for business.
Visitors are welcome to bring along picnics and beverages, with outdoor seating canal side and in the main studio area. There is also seating available in the courtyard, and people are also encouraged to use the education room located next to the site gift shop. Various eateries, pubs and cafes are also within walking distance of the Red House Glass Cone.
