Children's author holds book reading
CHILDREN’S AUTHOR'S CHARMING WAY TO AID LITTLE ONES' UNDERSTANDING OF DEMENTIA...
Much loved Warwickshire children’s author, Lee Sterrey, hosted an exclusive book reading of her adventure ‘The Buttercup Game’ at Birchfield Prepcare Day Nursery in Albrighton, near Wolverhampton.
Timed to co-inside with National Grandparents’ Day in the UK – Sunday 2 October – this inspiring book reading was also an opportunity for Lee to use ‘The Buttercup Game’ to highlight dementia to the nursery children, some of whom may already engage with grandparents who suffer from the devastating condition.
Dementia is not usually the theme for a children’s book but The Buttercup Game – volume three in the ‘Adventures on Honey Bee Farm’ series – uses an enchanting character, Grady Grey, to help children to understand what is happening when a much-loved grandparent fails to remember things. Grady loves visiting his Nana with his mummy but when Nana starts to become absent minded he has to work out how to still have fun, which he does in the most charming way.
With over 20 years’ experience in childcare the manager at Birchfield Prepcare Day Nursery, Penny Shevyn, has nurturing at the very heart of the nursery. She said: “To welcome Lee into our nursery and read her uplifting story to our children is very special. So many families have to deal with this devastating condition and to find ways for toddlers and young children to deal with dementia will mean such a lot. Young children often understand more than we give them credit for and when complex issues are explained in a simple way many relatives associated with the issue benefit.”
‘The Buttercup Game’ by Lee Sterrey is available from Amazon and all good bookshops.
