Your Child's Academic Journey
As parents, we all wonder what our children will grow up to be. They have several milestones throughout their school years, which have a knock-on effect to the next stage. It is therefore important to ensure your child completes each stage as well as they possibly can.
Y1 Phonics Screening Check - From 11th June 2018
The checks consist of (40 words and non-words) that your child will be asked to read one-on-one with a teacher. Non-words (or nonsense / pseudo words) are a collection of letters that will follow phonics rules your child has been taught, but don't mean anything - your child will need to read these with the correct sounds to show that they understand the phonics rules behind them.
Y2 Sats (KS1) - May 2018
Y2 children will be tested on the following skills in an informal manner. For maths, word problems, place value, number bonds, polygons and pictograms will be included. For English, writing composition, high frequency words, distinguishing between homophones and producing legible handwriting.
11+ Exams - September, October 2018 and January 2019
A large proportion of our students sit the South West Herts (SWHS) Consortium exams for academically selective local schools, which includes verbal reasoning (CEM) and maths (GL-Assessment). Other selective schools have different testing procedures, which can include: English comprehension, grammar and essay writing, verbal reasoning, non-verbal reasoning, maths and spoken interview.
Y6 Sats (KS2) - 14th - 17th May 2018
At the end of Year 6, children will sit tests in reading, maths, spelling, punctuation and grammar. These tests will be both set and marked externally and your child's marks will be used in conjunction with teacher assessment to give a broader picture of their attainment.
