Young Foundations Fostering
For many this will be their first positive experience of family life, and a stable and
secure home for as long as they need it.
Foster carers offer children a home while their own family is unable to look after them. This is often a short-term arrangement and many fostered children return home. Those who can't go back to their families but want to stay in touch may be looked after in long-term foster care.
Foster care makes a positive difference to the lives of tens of thousands of children every year. However, since 2007 the number of children living with foster carers has risen more than 6,000 and this has come at a time when there was already a shortage of nearly 10,000 foster carers across the UK. This is putting the fostering system under immense pressure.
As a result children are moved around the care system more, bringing further disruption to their lives. Some end up living with foster families who do not have the specific skills to meet their needs. Others have to move a long way from home, often separated from brothers and sisters, and may lose touch with family and friends.
This will change if more people come forward to be trained as skilled foster carers who can help to create a better future for society's most vulnerable children. Now is the time to care.
Under the theme Fostering: Time to Care,
Foster Care Fortnight 2011 (16th - 29th May 2011) will highlight the urgent need for more foster carers and call on everyone from political leaders to the general public to get behind fostering and support children in care.
Eric Forster the Director of our featured agency Young Foundations Fostering said: ââ'¬Ã "We operate a mentor system where our more experienced foster carers are linked to new carers to advise and support them during their first placements. We treat our foster carers as equal partners in a vitally important endeavour. What job is more important than caring for children and young people and being able to offer them the chance to achieve their full potential?ââ'¬Ã
ââ'¬Ã "We need carers from all walks of life and all parts of the community. Our drive to recruit more foster carers and our commitment to provide them with more support will mean that more children will get the care and stability they need.ââ'¬Ã Call 0161 605 0836 or visit www.yffostering.com for more information about Young Foundations Fostering.
