Hertfordshire Orienteering Club
Did you knowââ'¬Ã¦? ...Orienteering began as a Swedish military exercise, to help soldiers find their way in trackless forests. Nowadays, orienteering is enjoyed by all ages and fitness, from those who want an interesting walk in a park, to agile runners who dash through forests. Children love the challenge of finding all the checkpoints and rushing to the finish, to compare their route with their friends. Orienteering events have graded courses, to suit participants of different technical and athletic abilities. There is a well developed coaching system, to help children progress through the local club to a regional training squad and even to International competitions. All orienteering participants, both children and parents, gain confidence to find their way anywhere by reading a map and following a route - just like a human Tom Tom! Its also a great way for the whole family to keep fit! Walking in the open air, in lovely green surroundings with new friends. The Hertfordshire Orienteering Club has Clubmark status, awarded by Sport England to high quality clubs, committed to good practice in duty of care, child protection and sporting ethics. Come and join us!
