Perfect Places to Pedal – Solihull & Warwickshire

Cycling is not only great exercise for both you and your kids, it is also a perfect way to spend some time as a family out in the fresh air, away from those screens – and it is free! If you’re looking for somewhere new to try, here are some of our favourite family bike ride ideas:

1. Canal Towpaths

Our local canal network provides an abundance of flat towpaths along which to ride. In the springtime it’s lovely to cycle alongside the waterways, spotting herons and ducklings along the way.

2. The Stratford Greenway

The Stratford Greenway follows the course of part of the Honeybourne Line, a single track railway built in 1859 and closed in 1976. Now a trail for walkers and cyclists, the route links the attractive town of Stratford-upon-Avon with the village of Long Marston.

3. The Kenilworth Greenway

This runs from the outskirts of Kenilworth to Burton Green. This traffic-free walking and cycling route provides an essential link between local villages, the University of Warwick, Tile Hill railway station and Kenilworth town centre.

4. Kingsbury Water Park

Of all the family bike ride ideas, this is one of our personal family favourites. There is so much to see and do at Warwickshire’s premier waterside attraction! Kingsbury Water Park has 15 lakes situated in over 600 acres of country park. You can ride along the surfaced paths, explore hidden corners or spot birds and wildlife. Bikes are available to hire. Whatever your idea of a countryside visit is, you will find it at Kingsbury.

5. Ryton Pools Country Park

The 100 acres of Ryton Pools Country Park are just waiting to be explored. The many different habitats are home to a wide range of birds and other wildlife. The excellent surfaced paths enable easy walking and cycling around the site.

6. Arrow Valley Lake and Park

The whole family can enjoy a cycling adventure around the Arrow Valley lakes, near Redditch and following the sign posted trail.

7. Cannock Chase

If you want to explore the forest on two wheels, make sure to check out the cycling trails for family and mountain biking opportunities. Hire a bike from the cycle centre if needed.

8. Tudor Grange Cycle Track

A 1km figure of eight track, free to use, is ideal for those interested in this fast paced and fast growing Great British sport. Ideal for pro-training or just having fun. As the track is available to hire, it’s important to check the cycle track is available ahead of turning up.
