Join us throughout the school holidays where there are activities and events planned every day of the week.

Inside Out:

Come and enjoy free open air theatre at The Dell, our outdoor stage in Avonbank Gardens, Stratford-upon-Avon. Every weekend throughout June, July and August, you will find free performances of Shakespeare by professional companies, amateur theatre groups or schools and colleges.

There are other interactive activities to enjoy as part of Inside Out, as we bring the inside of the theatre out onto the terrace. ​​​​These activities will be available every day throughout the holidays and are free to use. 

Summer holiday workshops:

Our summer holiday activities for ages 4 – 17 include Shakespeare, stage fighting, voice, directing and clowning workshops, stage make up demonstrations, story telling for under 5s, open set changeovers, discovery tours and more.

Viewing tower:

Enjoy panoramic views of Stratford-upon-Avon and beyond from our Tower. A lift will take you up to the viewing platform and, as you descend via the stairs, you will discover an exhibition installed on the walls and in the alcoves. Our friendly staff will be on hand to answer your questions.

KIDS GO FREE - You can get two free kids' (under 16) tickets with every full price adult ticket purchased Monday to Friday during Warwickshire school holidays.

The Play's The Thing:

Take a magical journey through 100 years of theatre-making in Stratford-upon-Avon. On display are stunning costumes and props from our archives as 940d75eb8655b9a10a730cd71a1106fa.jpgwell as a rare copy of Shakespeare's first folio.

Get hands-on with our interactive exhibits:

  • Director’s ‘desk’ – discover the inspiration behind some of our most acclaimed shows
  • Play Hamlet alongside actor Ewart James Walters, using state-of-the-art gaming technology 
  • Magic Costume Mirror – try on virtual costumes from our collection and take a photo 
  • Discover gory details of theatre-making through the A-Z of Shakespeare’s secrets and stories 

The exhibition starts on the ground floor of the Swan Theatre, by the entrance to the Swan Cafe, and continues up to the floor above.

The Play's The Thing will be closed from 10-20 June 2019 as part of a planned changeover. It  re-opens on Friday 21 June with new costumes and props on display.

Free family friendly activities:

Whilst visiting with your family, there are lots of free daily activities to discover in both the Royal Shakespeare Theatre and The Other Place.

  • Dressing Up Cabinet, Cloakroom, Royal Shakespeare Theatre 
  • Play Cart, Riverside Cafe and The Other Place
  • Story Blanket, collect from the information desk at The Other Place

Pick up a free leaflet from the rack in the building or ask a member of staff. Our free activity trail helps you explore our building and discover all the fun things to do. Find our dressing up cabinet, amazing Lego mosaic, big bear, shining stars installation and peep holes mural. With lots of fun facts and secrets to be uncovered its a great way to discover more about the theatre.

Our experienced tour guides will take you backstage to explore the public and private areas of the theatre. Learn about the theatre making process and see for yourself how some of it happens, as well as exploring a production in more depth and finding out about the history of the RSC and our theatres in Stratford.


When you have worked up an appetite, visit the cafes for a children’s lunchbox, the Rooftop Restaurant for a delicious meal or make the day extra special with an afternoon tea over looking the River Avon.
