St Michael's Pupil is youngest 'Musher' in the UK!

143bfb5a96339eb1a36686743f67e61f.pngA Year 5 schoolgirl who became the youngest ‘musher’ to complete a sleddog trek in the UK in 2015 has completed the challenge for a second time – and received a special letter from her MP!

Isabelle Thompson, a pupil at St Michael’s Primary School in Figheldean, competed in the Salisbury Plain Trek with her family’s Alaskan malamute, Tinker.  She received a special letter via the school this week.

The letter was from Claire Perry, MP for the Devizes constituency, congratulating Isabelle on the success of completing her second dog trek across Salisbury Plain with her pet dog.

Also competing was Isabelle’s mother Kelly, who competed with their other dog, Titan.

Isabelle had been watching her mum, Kelly, take part in dog races for years and took part in her very first trek in 2015, aged 8.

Isabelle said: “I really enjoyed the trek, even though there wasn’t as much mud as last year.

“It was really cold but that was good for the dogs. My favourite bit was when I got to go in front and lead the other teams that were with me.”

The annual Salisbury Plain Trek, organised by the Alaskan Malamute Working Association (AMWA), takes place a few days after Christmas.

The 9 year-old is the youngest person to complete a sleddog trek in the UK and now she’s done it twice. Isabelle’s dog, Tinker is a family pet, and they have lots of fun together.

St Michael’s is part of Salisbury Plain Academies, a 4f0d75b27a6b94b42b4ba72fb536fbc2.pngmulti-academy trust.
