Safer Internet Day will take place on Tuesday 7th February 2017 with the theme ‘Be the change: Unite for a better internet’.

Celebrated in over 100 countries, Safer Internet Day will see Durrington children join hundreds of other individuals and organisations across the UK and globally to ‘be the change’ and help create a better Internet.

Helen Mathieson, CEO of Salisbury Plain Academies said: “The social impact of technology is widespread. Children are using digital technologies and media at increasingly younger ages and for longer periods of time; televisions, computers, mobile phones and more.

“But, in this digital world children are exposed to many risks. Every day we read stories about cyber-bullying, sexting, radicalisation, scams or data theft, days like Safer Internet Day offer the opportunity to highlight positive uses of technology and to explore the role we all play in helping to create a better and safer online community.”

To celebrate the day, the school is running a number of activities – Reception children are designing and making their own E-safety protector, Year 2 children are designing and making E-Safety mouse mats, and Year 1 children are taking part in quizzes, games and making posters. All 160 children and staff are getting involved.

Durrington Teacher Jodie Scott is the Computing subject leader at the school, she said; “Our children are living in a world full of technology, some 64b3145addd4fbcabc1ec8428da5abdf.jpgof which is out of our control. It is our job as educators to embed e-safety across all areas of the curriculum and support the children in how to stay safe online.”

Sarah from Xercise4Less gives Raring2go! some great ideas for family fun to keep fit and healthy. Don't get stuck indoors just because it is winter. Dark mornings, cold blustery evenings and it seems we would all rather reach for our duvet than even contemplate heading outdoors to get active! Remember it’s only cold when you’re standing still…
