The main station, Clayton West, has a full range of amenities to entertain you and your family while you wait for the train or after you return.
To provide you with entertainment at our top-of-the-line station, Shelley there are new facilities and more are on the way
Clayton West (the Main Station)
Cafe serving hot and cold food and a wide variety of snacks to 100 people or more in our vividly decorated, spacious cafe.
Indoor play area Within the cafe area is a large carpeted space set aside for play, with Thomas and friends wooden playsets and other toys suitable for both girls and boys.
Shop The shop sells a wide range of Hornby and Thomas and Friends products as well as a wide range of other toys, books and merchandise. With prices to suit pocket money to the budget of a serious enthusiast!
Miniature train As well as Yorkshire's Great Little Steam Engines, they have a Great Even Smaller Engine (7ÃÂ¼" gauge) which takes passengers on a ride twice around the big duck pond. From time to time the Barnsley Model Engineers bring along some of their more unusual locomotives to take people on rides.
Train-themed outdoor play area Kids can spend as long as they like playing on our big engine and wagons and on our two-storey fort, as well as swings and rockers for the less adventurous! The play area is compliant with all current regulations, and is fully fenced off and filled with soft bark chippings to ensure the safety of your children.
Picnic area You can either buy from the cafe or bring your own food to eat onsturdy wooden picnic benches. These are situated right next to the play area overlooking the duck pond, so you can keep an eye on the kids whilst finishing your lunch at your leisure!
Engine sheds While they're not working, the engines stay in the engine sheds at Clayton West, on the other side of the turntable. Tours of the engine sheds can be arranged either in advance or, staff permitting, on the day.
Large free car park There is space for around 200 cars in the free car park
Shelley Station ("the top end") Now you can wile away an hour or more at the new end-of-the-line development atShelley Station, providing a picnic area with sturdy benches and a train-themed play area similar to that at Clayton West, but with the addition of a sandpit!

For visitors traveling by car
Clayton West Station is situated on the A636 Wakefield to Denby Dale road, off Junction 38 or 39 of the M1 Motorway. Follow the brown tourist signs saying "Narrow Gauge Scenic Railway". Go through the industrial estate ÃÂ¢Ã¢âÂ¬Ã¢â¬Å they're at the top. The railway has a large free car park.

Wakefield Bus Station, Stand 17 (approx 32 mins) Towards Holmfirth 10 minutes past the hour (Arriva no. 435)
Leeds, by bus & train (approx 55 mins) Take the train at 40 minutes past the hour to Wakefield Westgate Arrive at 53 mins past the hour Take the Arriva 435 at 10 mins past the hour towards Holmfirth Arrive at Clayton West at 35 mins past the hour
From Barnsley train station (approx 58 mins) Take the train at 1 min past the hour to Denby Dale Arrive Denby Dale 24 mins past the hour Take the bus (Stagecoach 82) at 42 mins past the hour towards Huddersfield Get off at Scisset and take a 17 minute walk to Clayton West
From Holmfirth Bus Station, Stand C (approx 40 mins) Take the bus (Arriva 435) at 27 mins past the hour Arrive at Clayton West at 8 mins past the hour
The Railway is open Every weekend from February to the end of May and 31st July until 21st November February and May half term holidays.
