Royal Gunpowder Mills
Set in 175 acres of natural parkland and boasting 21 buildings of major historic importance, the site mixes fascinating history, exciting science and beautiful surroundings to produce a magical day out for all. Established in the 17th century and acquired by the Crown in 1787, the Royal Gunpowder Mills has a very important place in both the history of Great Britain and its home town of Waltham Abbey. Our events calendar for 2008 includes something for everyone. New this year is the Classic Vehicle Show and the Rocket and Space Event. Back for another season is our most successful VE Day weekend including the fantastic Spitfire display (Monday only), the Jousting Tournament, and the Steam Fair. There is NO EXTRA CHARGE for our event weekends. Your ticket allows you entry to our award winning exhibition and is valid for two consecutive days. Opening Season 2008 Open Weekends and Bank Holidays only from Saturday, 26 April to Sunday, 28 September 2008 Summer School Break Open Wednesdays during the Summer School Break Opening every Wednesday as normal during the Summer School Break with Special Children's Activities. Opening Hours 11am - 5pm (last entry 3.30pm) Suggested length of visit is three to four hours. Guided Group Visits Available on Tuesdays and Wednesdays by appointment.
