New WOW Zone, Life Science Centre

New WOW Zone, Life Science Centre

Saturday 17 February – Sunday 26 February at Life Science Centre

There’s lots of indoor fun to be had at Life this February half term including a brand-new area – Wow Zone! Get hands-on in the new interactive area with brain teasing exhibits and spectacular demonstrations that YOU control!

Plus! Immerse yourself in our Planetarium and get creative in making a moving wave sculpture to take home. Don’t forget to visit the Science Now! Hub, and discover lots about wild bees and their importance to our planet.

Half-term highlights:

  • New! Wow Zone – Get hands-on with multi-sensory exhibits including light play, dramatic demonstrations controlled by you and the ‘Big Machine’ which stands over 6-metres-tall!
  • Experiment Zone – Discover the hidden chemistry of the sea. What could happen if climate change makes the sea less salty? (Ages 7+).
  • The Sea and Me – Grab your snorkels and join us for a NEW live show as we explore the North East coast. Discover why it’s often windy at the beach, how we use wind power and the make-up of bird poo!
  • Wave sculpture – Get creative in the Making Studios and make your own moving wave sculpture to take home. Add a boat, floating bird or surfer to ride on the wave!
  • Discover the stars – Blast off into space and experience a tour of the night sky in the planetarium. Take a look at the different stars, how to find them on your own and be dazzled by a close-up encounter.
  • Gaia, our planet Earth – be amazed by the 7-metre wide, glowing replica of our shared home, created by British artist Luke Jerram. On the upper level of the science centre, grab an easel and create your own Earth-inspired artwork.
  • Play Zone – fun for under 7’s in the three pop-up play stations. Create make believe meals in the mini-kitchen and café and learn to recycle everything!
