Life Science Centre

The Life Science Centre is a fantastic day out for the whole family with hand on science activities, changing exhbitions, a planetarium, live science demonstrations, workshops, activities for the under 7s, 4d motion ride and more! 

Our packed programme includes science activities for all ages from pre-school to adults, including special events and birthday parties. We're a great destination for school trips and groups visits, and during the winter you can even go ice skating on our outdoor ice rink.

Ongoing Events

Robot: a collection of robot models, cyborgs and androids from TV and film

When:  23 January – 17 April 2016

Opening times:  Mon - Sat 10:00am – 6:00pm, Sun 11:00am – 6:00pm

Admission prices: Included in Science Centre admission price.

Details:  Life’s NEW exhibition Robot features over 40 robot models, cyborgs and androids - full size models, heads and toys - from TV shows and films from the past 60 years.

Bright Sparks

When:  23 January – 20 March 2016

Opening times:  Mon - Sat 10:00am – 6:00pm, Sun 11:00am – 6:00pm

Admission prices: Included in Science Centre admission price.

Details:  What makes a spark? In this brand new Science Theatre show, we explore the world of colours, flames and flashes. Expect plenty of hands-on science demos! Bright Sparks is recommended suitable for ages 5+, and each show lasts around 20 mins.

Skating@Life

When:  14 November – 21 February 2016

Admission prices: Family (1 adult + 3 children OR 2 adults + 2 children): £24.50, Adults: £8.50, Children (aged 5 - 17): £6.50, Children (aged 4 and under): £5.50, Concessions (OAP, student or unwaged): £7.50

Details: Newcastle’s only outdoor ice rink returns for 2015! Grab your skates, wrap up warm and head down to Times Square for a whirl around the ice! Please note: children aged 9 and under must be accompanied by an adult on the ice rink. Children aged 10 - 12 must be supervised by an adult (adults can watch from the viewing platform if they prefer).

Happy Feet - Mumble’s Wild Ride

When: 7 November – 21 February 2016

Details:  Join Mumble and his comical penguin friends in this thrilling, action-packed adventure

Experience every twist, turn, high and low as your seat moves in time to the 3D action on screen in our 4D Motion Ride. You can expect to be blasted with wind, smoke and water, and you'll even be able to smell the action! For safety reasons you have to be at least 1.2 metres in height to use the Motion Ride.

Hubble at 25

When:  24 October 2015 – 2 February 2016

Opening times: Mon-Sat -10am-6pm, Sun – 11am-6pm (Thursday late opening until 8pm)

Details:  Over the last 25 years, the Hubble Space Telescope has changed the way we see our universe. Celebrate this iconic piece of space history in Life’s brand new planetarium show and see some of its triumphs of science that are also amazing art.
