The Gymnastics development programme is now available for children and adults providing opportunities to develop new skills and take part in this increasingly popular sport.
Our interactive programme helps improve co-ordination, balance, dexterity and interaction with others. Is fun, energy sapping and promotes healthy and supple bodies.
Courses can be booked at West Denton Leisure Centre and Walker Activity Dome, both managed by the UKs largest leisure social enterprise GLL on behalf of Newcastle City Council. Lesley Rutter has been a coach for over 13 years teaching fundamental, early years and pre-school, specialising in teaching Team Gym, a discipline where up to 12 gymnasts perform together in tumbling, trampette, vault and floor routines. Her previous experience working with local authorities and schools in the region as a community coach will stand her in good stead to develop the new programme for GLL Newcastle centres. The programme has developed greatly over the past 2 years, giving the opportunity to offer development gymnastics. Children who participate in our recreational classes have the chance of being invited to our development programme. The development programme is invite only and training is between 4 and 7.5 hours a week depending on level. We aim to grow this programme even further throughout 2019.
Lesley said, “It is my passion for all kids to have the opportunity to get involved and take part in gymnastics, with accessible sessions and affordable prices so there are no barriers to participation. This new scheme ticks those boxes with great equipment, modern buildings and concessionary pricing available.
