Sounds Right Phonics: Wimbledon, Kingston & Barnes
Phonics? If you’ve never heard of it then you’re not alone! In the 1960s, phonics was replaced with learning to read words by rote – a method most parents will remember today. But due to a compelling government report, phonics was reinstated in 2006 as the mandatory way of teaching reading in the UK.
Sounds Right Phonics Classes for kids in Wimbledon, Richmond, Kingston & Barnes are for children aged 3 months to 4 years old. The classes are split into three age ranges so that they are developmentally appropriate and fun for your little ones. These classes are educational and active so bring lots of energy and prepare to have fun whilst we learn through play! Aspects of all of our classes are changed each week to keep the children engaged. However, the structure of the class is kept the same to build a sense of confidence and routine in the children.
Zoe is a qualified primary school teacher who specialises in Early Years and Key Stage 1 education. After stepping out of the classroom, Zoe became a phonics tutor for children who needed additional support with their reading. In January, Zoe launched Sounds Right Phonics classes in Wimbledon, Richmond, Kingston & Barnes to further support parents and their children before they arrive at school.
Sounds Right Phonics Preschool (2.5 – 4 years):
This class introduces a new letter sound each week through props, action songs and games. Children are also encouraged to blend and segment words, with our mascot Robot Reg, using a variety of activities to ensure that the children are always learning through play. The class is 45 minutes of directed activities in which parents and children learn together with support from the teacher.
What parents say about this class: “My girls joined half way through the term and they have thoroughly enjoyed it and love singing the songs. My eldest is now spotting sounds and words!”
MINI Sounds Right Phonics (12 – 30 months):
The MINIS class also introduces a new sound each week but the primary focus is developing and acquiring language skills. This is encouraged through 30 minutes of props, songs and activities followed by 15 minutes of stories and mark making. The class sizes are kept small to ensure plenty of interaction between parent, child and teacher.
What parents say about this class: “I would highly recommend Zoe and her classes! I’m already seeing progress with my daughter. She is vocalising and talking so much more since starting the class. We love how varied and fun the session is so it gets a big thumbs up from us!”
Sounds Right BABES (3 months to walking):
Learning starts from day 1 of your child's life and the things they learn as infants are the building blocks that can shape their future development. Every Sounds Right BABES class helps to introduce your child to a world of literacy and meet those important developmental milestones through nursery rhymes, action songs, instruments and visual stimulation. Each class is 30 minutes of directed activities followed by 15 minutes of story time. The class is friendly and small so that you and your little one can benefit from plenty of support and encouragement from the teacher.
What parents say about this class: “The class gets better and better every week. I could do it every day"
