My name is Vi Wood Face and Founder of Leslie's Care Packages for the Homeless, which has been set up in loving memory of my dear husband Leslie.
We are a non funding, non profit, voluntary group, which was set up in August 2016 through Facebook and already it has attracted a big response from generous people across the Black Country, and beyond.
Our mission is to provide much needed provisions, such as food, toiletries, sleeping bags, and clothing to homeless and disadvantaged people. We rely on the general public, friends and family for support and donations. These are all vital to the continuing success of Leslie's Care Packages.
"As one of our lovely Supporters put it so nicely, the help that is given by Leslie's Care Packages is direct and fast and so valuable. They don't put people on a waiting list.
Collections, deliveries, sorting out donations, taking pictures, raising awareness of homelessness, raising funds, etc is all done from my home, and in my spare time.
I currently work as a Caregiver for a private care provider, and I have vowed to help the homeless following my own experience when my family were at risk of losing our own home.

Thanks to donations to our packages, we have been able to help lots fo vulnerable local people in need. Her are just a few examples:
We helped a young couple recently. They lived in a homeless shelter, and were expecting their first baby imminently. We managed to get them a pram, mosses baskets, nappies and other baby items..they had a little girl in May this year, and are now living in their own home!.
In April 2017, we provided 55 Easter eggs for residents in a supported housing.
I was contacted by Living Springs charity to see if I could provide a travel system for a young family. Within two days I had 2 of them to donate, and they were very grateful..
This spring, I provided an emergency food parcel to a gentlemen who had his Benefits stopped. He was very grateful and when I was a guest on the local radio show, he phoned the radio presenter and asked him to to thank me, which was lovely!
In 2017 Viv Wood won the Dudley Mayor's Award.
