Red House Glass Cone
The Red House Glass Cone lies in the heart of the Stourbridge Glass Quarter. Built at the end of the 18th century the Cone was used for the manufacture of glass until 1936. It is now one of only four cones left in the United Kingdom. Reaching 100 feet into the sky, the Cone enclosed a furnace around which men made glass for 140 years. Today the Cone is a place to learn and have fun whatever your age.
It's a great place to take the family with free admission and parking, baby changing facilities and on-site barista coffee house with a kids menu.
We have hot glassblowing demonstrations in our hot glass studio every weekend and daily during school holidays. The glassblowers are happy to answer any questions visitors have about the process and are able to talk to onlookers through the process if they're not too out of puff!
Juniors at Museums (JAM) Club is our popular events and activities programme which includes everything from interactive tours, glass fusing classes, our ever changing ‘Duck’ trail, parties and events for all the family.
There are a number of craft studios on site ranging from jewellers, artists, silk painter and ceramics. All our tenants make in their studios so you can watch them at work, pick up a unique piece of art or participate in one of the many workshops.
The Red House Glass Cone is open:
Saturday & Sunday. 11am-4pm
“Right by the canal so you can sit and enjoy views. A very good day out educational and free will be returning for different events”
“The live glass blowing was excellent- the lady was extremely informative and talented.”
“Ideal family outing, plenty to see, I think that this is ideal for families with children of 9+. I found the visit interesting and informative. Easy to park wheel chair friendly.”
“Free parking nearby and entry is free. There was a duck hunt where children could find ducks placed around and they get a prize once completed. You can see glass being made throughout the day and glass work is on show which is available to purchase and not at expensive prices.”
