With many of us celebrating birthdays at home at during the lockdown, we asked our Raring2go! readers what they have been doing to make birthday's special during the restrictions.
This is how our Raring2go! readers have been celebrating at home:
"We set a tent up in the lounge and did a family camp out. We also did a Harry Potter marathon challenge and watched them back to back (almost - it’s hard!!) The grandparents decorated the outside of the house and laid a treasure hunt in the garden, (they live next door but we are distancing). and we had afternoon tea in the garden with ‘champagne’ (shloer!!) 🤣. We were lucky that lots of people also sent her a birthday card so the post was special 🌈😍. A day to remember" Jackie Banks
" It certainly was very different celebrating my daughter's 7th birthday this year. Family left presents on the doorstep. She said she loved it especially still being able to FaceTime all the family & friends 🎈🎁 It also fell on Easter Sunday, so we did an Eeaster Egg Hunt in the garden too." Samantha Jayne.
" For my son's birthday I’m going to do a present hunt with clues and have made a DIY backyard circus (ring toss, tin can alley, bowling, eating donuts off a string no handed, lucky dip box) managed to reuse loads of recycling as well." Gemma Wilks-Cook.
"We have a colleague who lives alone and had a birthday earlier this month. We organised a surprise party on Zoom and invited her to a “staff meeting”. Each of us prepared a cake with a candle, we sang happy birthday, some people made signs and party hats, etc. We also arranged the delivery of some edible treats to her home." Anna Lee
"We ordered balloons and banners decorated the whole house for my daughter's birthday, had afternoon tea in the garden, sang happy birthday with candles, watched a film with popcorn, and had sparklers after dark. She said it was the best birthday she'd ever had." Lisa Dew
"Our son was 5. We had a picnic in the garden with party food. Pin the tail on the donkey, a scavenger hunt etc. He had a group call with his school friends and video messages." Nicola Fisher
"It was my husband's 40th. I got all friends and family to send me a video message so made a slide show of clips. We did a treasure hunt around house to find presents. We made salt dough hands. Had burgers for tea. Played kids version of cards against humanity. Kids made dares for him to do. We made birthday cake. Had a video message made from Elsa as a funny joke!" Rebecca Tombs
"It was my son's 11th birthday on 9th April. I gave him a riddle hunt for some of his presents so every hour for 3 hrs I gave him a riddle and he had to solve it to find the present. We then had miniature food picnic and I made a Nerf gun board and played that and made him a birthday chair when sat at table too!" Yvonne Gibson
"The local fire station came to wave outside as my son is obsessed with fire engines and being a firefighter! Rachel Sarah

Escape Rooms Kidderminster & Stourbridge have come up with an Escape Room Home Kit, which you can download here. See if you can escape your house (even when you can't!!). The kit is called Extra-Terrestrial Encounters Agency and players need to solve a series of puzzles in order to communicate with aliens from a distant galaxy. The puzzles would suit children 8+, but younger children can also enjoy setting up the room, and there are suggestions for creating props from common household items. It costs £10 for unlimited downloads.
