Teens2: our Go-to Guide for your older child
At Raring2go! we often get asked €˜what's out there for teenagers?' Once your children start High School, it can be harder to find activities to keep 'tweenagers' busy, or services to support them. Here are a some activities we've discovered for older children. I hope with your help, this section can grow!
The Teenage Market gives young people a free platform to showcase their creative and entrepreneurial talents. Locally, the market is held twice a year at the Red House Glass Cone in Wordsley. Visit theteenagemarket.co.uk.
Kidderminster & District Youth Trust (KDYT) run a number of youth activities, at Bromsgrove Street, Kidderminster. The Youth Cafe is open on Monday to Thursday from 2.30pm and is open to children aged 13+.
Activities at the centre also include Fusion Youth Club for children aged 13 - 25 who have additional needs, and the Junior Youth Club for children in years 5,6 and 7 which is held on a Thursday from 6pm - 8pm.
Dance is a great way to boost confidence, get fit and have fun with friends.
Fusion Dance Factory in Norton offer classes in ballet, tap, freestyle and street for this age group. Freestyle and Street classes are a great way to learn routines to your favourite tracks. Taking part in displays and shows will help build team work and friendship within the group.

At The Performance Hub, in Oldswinford, as well as dance classes for little ones, they also offer 4 classes for teens. Known as ˜Inters', the classes are aimed at ages 11-14 year olds. Styles include Jazz, Contemporary, Acro Dance and Urban Dance.

Martial arts are good for the mind and the body and the discipline offers a great way of relieving stress. At Wyre Forest Taekwondo, there's no upper age limit. They offer classes for all ages and abilities, so the whole family can train together, giving you valuable time with your older child. Stourport Sports Club is the home of Stourport Hockey Club, Kidderminster & Stourport Athletic Club, Kidderminster & District Netball League and Wyre Forest Cycle Racing Club. run in conjunction with our partners including Wyre Forest District Council and Stourport High School their aim is to provide first class sports facilities and access to sport for the whole community - so it's a good port of call for a teenager looking for a new hobby. Each club here will offer classes for older children and will encourage your child to adopt a healthy lifestyle. Sport is a great stress relief too!
The Fitness Factory gym in Wollaston, Stourbridge run a junior gym. 'Kids Gym' are instructor led sessions for kids aged 8-15 and are held on a Monday, Tuesday & Wednesday evening at 6.30pm-7.30pm.
If your child is aged 4- 14, they might like to try the new Junior Park Run! The event takes place at Stevens Park, Wollescote Road, Stourbridge, DY9 7JG every Sunday at 9am. It's free to join in with the 2k timed run, but your child must register online before each run. Click here.
When the weather is warm, then Aztec Adventure (Upton Warren, near Bromsgrove) offers Royal Yachting Association accredited windsurfing and sailing courses as well as British Canoeing accredited paddle sport courses. During the holidays they also run holiday clubs - or you can just go along with a group or with your family (pre-booking advised).
If you teen isn't sure what activity to take up,they could try a taster course before committing to a full RYA courses.

Dudley Watersports Centre in Netherton is home to Dudley Rowing Club. Whether on indoor machines, or stable water boats, they welcome people of all abilities, aged 11 and over. All the equipment is provided. Taster sessions for juniors are just £5. www.facebook.com/DudleyRowing
Theatre schools can help build confidence just when teenagers need it most.
Stagecoach Stourbridge, and Kidderminster, believe in the potential of every child and offer term time classes for children up to 18 as well as holiday workshops. The Stourbridge school has just opened a new venue in Hagley on Friday evenings.
Pauline Quirke Academy
welcomes children aged 4 to 18. Their aim is for children to leave their academy every week with their heads held high and a smile on their faces knowing they have the confidence to take on the world and all its challenges - perfect for teenagers! Classes offer a grounding in Comedy and Drama, Musical Theatre and Film and Television.
Simply Limitless Centre in Kidderminster run a band for young people aged 13-19. The Puxtons aims to help young people gain confidence through music. It allows young people the opportunity to be involved in music, whether singing or playing an instrument, which has massive benefits in terms of confidence, academic achievement and musical ability. At Simply Limitless they also run a group called After Party. It's for young people aged 13-21 who meet every Thursday, 8.00pm at Simply Limitless. In a fun atmosphere we build great friendships, do exciting activities and have a great time! LEARN TO SKI
Now the children are older, maybe a family skiing holiday is on your bucket list? Or perhaps your child is keen to go skiing on a school trip? Children can learn to ski on the dry ski slope at Wolverley CE Secondary School. Blocks of lessons run each half term for both juniors and adults. Lessons for children aged 11+ run on a Tuesday from 6.30pm - 7.30pm. For details call 01562 859800.
Roller skating is a great way to get fit but is also a really sociable activity, with music thrown in for good measure! Roller Revolution runs skating sessions at Leasowes Sports Centre in Halesowen. The family session is on a Sunday at 3pm, but your older child may prefer the Open Session at 5pm - 6.30pm each Sunday.
The Wyre Forest Leisure Centre also hold regular skating sessions: Skating is every Friday evening.

SCOUTS AND GUIDES
Your child may have attended brownies or cubs as a youngster, but there's a section for older children too. Explorer Scouts is for young people aged between 14 and 18. Learn to camp, cook, abseil, water zorb and more!
Rangers is a new section of the Guides movement, aimed at girls aged between 14 and 18. Girls can work towards their Rangers Gold Award by completing a series of badges, or take on the Duke of Edinburgh programme. (DofE).
Aire Cadets recruits young men and women aged 12 to 18 years. The Stourbridge Air Cadet Squadron (451) parades on a Monday and Wednesday evening at 19:15 - 21:30. They meet at the TA Centre, Swinford Road, Stourbridge. Activities include Flying, Shooting, Duke of Edinburgh Award, Fieldcraft, Camping and many more.
