Parents Reveal: Chores the Kids Love – and Loathe!

3ae11143060c4d8ac6e2925bf1222f1a.jpgDo you think children as young as two should pull their weight around the house? That’s what one mum hints in an ‘age appropriate chore guide for kids’ which has gone viral and prompted many to ask, when is the right time to introduce children to chores?

This is something that is personal to every parent, but what is key is we shouldn’t be scared to introduce children to chores.

In an aptly titled article “Happy Children Do Chores” posted by The New York Times, it is argued being a part of the routine work of running a household helps children develop an awareness of the needs of others. One positive among a handful of others.

To find out more about children and chores, End of Tenancy Cleaning London surveyed just under 2,500 parents (2,424.) The survey asked participants to select chores based on how easy it is to get their kids to complete them.

83% of parents selected feed pets as the easiest chore to get their children to complete, followed by put toys away (75%) and water plants (71%.)

Parents revealed a little more encouragement is needed to get children interested in tidy-up activities, such as hoover / sweep up crumbs (63%), pile books and magazines (60%) and wipe up spills (51%) and were hugely honest in sharing things get trickier when it comes to 9b0e1270573075bd114c603764e9b370.jpgtasks like empty bin (20%), put dirty clothes in hamper (19%) and wash plastic dishes / cups at sink (15%.)

However, it was found no chore causes more fuss than making the bed! In fact, in the chores list collated by End of Tenancy Cleaning London, make bed was ranked last. Only 9% of parents said their children would complete this task with no upset.

According to the kids, there just isn’t any point in making up a bed, when it is just going to get messy again!
