WildWoods Forest School, Cobham
Forest Schools originated in Scandinavia in the 1950’s. Sessions take place in the outdoors where the environment stimulates children’s natural curiosities as they use their five senses to make connections with nature and the wider world. Within the forest school environment, children learn to assess and manage their own risks as they become confident in their own abilities. They learn to collaborate with each other in order to achieve tasks, acquiring valuable skills which they transfer into other areas of their lives.
Children are individuals, and are encouraged to explore freely outdoors. They are taught to be able to use tools safely, and to light fires and explore the natural world, whilst also setting their own boundaries to help them feel secure. The Forest School Leader is guided by the child and will support each individual to feel confident to meet new challenges.
At Wildwoods, children learn to identify flora and fauna and closely examine the cycles and patterns of the seasons. We create habitats for animals and insects and learn to recognise the tracks and trails left by our woodland inhabitants. Our sessions are designed to be accessible to children of all ages and abilities.
Wildwoods Forest School is set in a natural environment to support learning and play for children afes from 3 years. The school aims to inspire not only the children, but to encourage families to enjoy the countryside. Forest School sessions happen in all but the most extreme weather conditions and continue throughout the year. Our mantra is: ‘There is no such thing as bad weather, only bad clothing’.
