The Lord Kitchener
TWO MEALS FOR THE PRICE OF ONE ONLY œ6.90 "Truly a real Home from Home" Often said but never meant more than here. Claimed to be one of the oldest pubs in Oxfordshire, the Lord Kitchener is situated on the A4095 Bampton road at Curbridge near Witney. Apparently the pub was originally known as The Head of Swine! Quite when the name changed no one knows but presumably sometime after the First World War in recognition of the Secretary of war, Lord Horatio Kitchener, whose face featured on the famous army recruitment poster and now hangs proudly on the pub sign. The Lord Kitchener is a place whose warm and welcoming atmosphere means that time spent here, lunchtimes or evenings are more like being home with with great wine, food & company. As soon as you're through the door you're aware that the pub is more than it seems. Good humoured joshing and lots of laughter come from around the roaring log fire. With an excellent reputation locally for it's wonderful food it is well worth the visit.
