The Gala Theatre and Cinema in Durham

The centrepiece of Durham’s arts programme, the Gala Theatre is situated in a beautiful, purpose-built, £15m building on the banks of the river Wear in the heart of this historic city. The venue houses a state-of-the-art modern theatre, spacious and comfortable café-bar, two cinema screens and superb conference facilities.

With a programme of live events attracting some of the country’s leading theatre companies, comedians, bands, musicians and dance performers; and a cinema programme showing the latest blockbusters alongside independent and classic films; Gala offers the very best in entertainment. With a dynamic, experienced new team in place, the venue is going from strength-to-strength, and has recently begun producing its own theatre productions.

Gala Theatre Stage School

Formed in 2002, the Gala Theatre Stage School is made up of around 250 extremely talented and dedicated young performers. The students study weekly classes in dance, acting and vocal techniques, with most hoping to go on to pursue a career in theatre. Each year, many of our students secure places at the world\'s finest performing arts academies including those in London and New York. They regularly perform to sell-out audiences at Gala, and with successful recent productions including Les Miserables, Disney\'s Beauty and The Beast, We Will Rock You and Miss Saigon. The group boasts some of the best young talent in the North East.
