Keeping your child safe around water this summer …
Whether you are enjoying the local beach or a swimming pool at home in the UK or abroad overseas over the school holidays, water safety awareness for children and all the family is vital. Each year, millions of Britons jet off to sunnier climes and it’s essential to ensure your children will be safe around the water.
Before you travel
Consider enrolling your children in swimming lessons such as those offered by Everyone Active
Check pool safety arrangements for where you’re staying in advance
Be cautious about booking private villas that don’t have safety fencing around the pool
While you’re away:
Be vigilant at all times - children won’t shout out for help if they’re drowning
Understand that inflatables aren’t a substitute for supervision or swimming ability *1
And on the beach ….
So, where is a safe place to swim?
• On a lifeguarded beach
• A red and yellow flag indicates a safe place to swim or use inflatables
• A red flag is a sign for danger and means NO SWIMMING
• Remember there may be hazards that you cannot see
Young children should always be supervised on the beach. Make sure you explain to your children that it’s not safe to swim on their own in the sea. *2
Everyone Active’s award-winning swim lessons help adults and children to learn this life-saving skill, and gain confidence in and around the water. For more information visit: www.everyoneactive.com
