Rubery Youth Band
The Rubery Youth Marching Band is a self-funding charity organisation, whose aims are to advance the education and training of young people in all aspects of traditional banding, and the furtherance of awareness, appreciation and enjoyment of traditional youth marching bands. The minimum age is 8 and the maximum is 25, but consideration can be given to interested parties outside of this range. The band was formed in 1983 and adopts a British Military style of music and drill based on that of HM Forces. The uniform combines a scarlet tunic complimented with a white peaked cap and belt, black trousers with a red stripe. All band members are given musical tuition with the opportunity to take their Grade examinations with the Guildhall School of Music. All instruments, uniforms and tuition is provided by the band. The band has played at many prestigious events across the country and in Europe which have included performances at the Royal Albert Hall, The NEC Arena, and The National Indoor Arena. The band also performs at a variety of local events, which include contests, concerts and attend carnivals and parades. The band meets on Monday evenings from 7:00 - 9:00pm at the Rubery Community Centre, and on Friday evenings from 7:00 - 9:00pm at Waseley Hills High School.
