Sinderhope Pony Trekking Centre

Childrens Classes

Sinderhope Pony Trekking Centre is situated in the heart of the once famous lead and silver mining country where traces of these workings can still be seen. Many of the treks follow paths once trodden by teams of pack ponies, each carrying 16 stone of lead over the moors along such tracks as ” The Black Way ” and ” The Long Drag ” to industrial Tyneside and the north – eastern ports.

The panoramic views are much more appreciated from horseback. Looking north, you can see at a glance the Roman Wall country, The Rothbury Hills, The Cheviot Hills and the Scottish Border – a country rich in romantic history of night riders rustling cattle and sheep, and of battles between unfriendly clans.

Many moorland birds such as red grouse, the more rare black grouse, curlew, snipe, lapwing, red shank and buzzards can be seen and heard. Red squirrels and roe deer are also frequently seen when out riding.

Enjoy riding in the beautiful scenery of South-west Northumberland in the Allen Valley. The centre is based on a traditional working hill farm, we are ideally placed within safe access to miles of open moorland routes and country lanes.
It is not necessary to have had any previous riding experience to enjoy trekking.

We have carefully built up a team of horses and ponies to provide a range of sizes, types and temperaments to suit everyone from the complete beginner to the competent rider.
Canters are arranged for the more experienced rider, while basic instructions and support are offered to the nervous or novice rider. We also provide private trekking for individuals or groups if you would like to go out on your own with one of our guides, these sessions are subject to availability. All treks are escorted by experienced riders.
