Abel Karate is a club with a difference.
Abel Karate, School of Champions, was established in 2010 in East Molesey by Head Instructor, Sensei Paul Abel. Today, the Club has expanded across Surrey, but the school stays close to its founding principle; that Karate can be an inclusive discipline and that Abel Karate will welcome and celebrate participation of the sport from all ages and abilities.
Present day Karate is categorized into four main areas: Mental Conditioning, Physical Conditioning, Self Defense and Sport. As a sport, Karate improves fitness and enhances strength and co-ordination, but the club also particularly excels at cultivating several internal values within its members. As self- respect, motivation, teamwork, discipline and confidence develop, they then naturally carry through into the school or work setting.
Abel Karate also launched The Be Inspired Project, which aims to promote awareness through action, that children and young people with disabilities can thrive in sports. Abel Karate passionately believes that with the right support and specialist teaching methods, every child can reach their true potential.
Our members have access to training sessions every week, as well as courses and regular opportunities to attend and compete in local, national and international competitions. Various aspects of karate will be covered including the syllabus towards belt promotion, along with self-defense and competition skills.
Abel Karate is a family-friendly club that welcomes members regardless of their culture, gender, religion origin or ability. We aim to help each student achieve their goals for practicing Karate, taking into account their individual abilities and ambition. All teachers and assistants of the Abel Karate Club have undergone full DBS checks.
Karate is a great positive step to take for many children and adults who start their journey in karate and provides them with a stable foundation and new found confidence. Our club offers the opportunity to begin, or continue in their karate training. Children who do karate can:
- Become more confident
- Be more focused at school
- Increase their self-esteem
- Learn to be self-disciplined
We hope you will enjoy your experience of learning Martial Arts in a fun and stimulating environment.
Little Ninjas – 3-4 years:
Welcome to Little Ninjas, the safe and exciting space created to give your child a chance to explore their physicality as we introduce them to the basics of Martial Arts. Each forty-five minute class includes simple warm-ups and stretching techniques, to get those little bodies moving, as well as agility courses, which have been carefully designed to develop co-ordination and balance, whilst stimulating and inspiring the playful mind. As our Little Ninjas progress and grow in confidence and ability, we introduce self-defense based techniques such as kicks, punches and blocks, always instilling an essential understanding of respect for others and self-discipline.
In our experience, children who learn Karate also respond fantastically well to its traditional, belt promotion system, which offers them a visible measure of their progress, helping to build self-esteem, whilst simultaneously encouraging them onto the next level.
All teachers and assistants of the Abel Karate Club have undergone full DBS checks.
Samurai classes – 5-9 years:
Our enthusiastic and motivated instructors will guide your child on their martial arts journey and help them set, and more importantly, achieve their goals along the way! Through a unique combination of physical and life skills training we are able to develop outstanding Karate technique in our students and help them achieve success in all their endeavours in and out of Karate.
Our exciting Syllabus will give your child the confidence they need to handle life head on! Our Samurai Classes are for children 5-8 years, focusing on building a strong foundation in Karate that acts as a base for our character development programme, which teaches children the values of respect, and self-discipline. Your child will gain confidence, learn to pay attention and follow directions, improve their fine motor skills and gain a positive “I can do it” attitude.
We teach our students how perseverance leads to success in martial arts, at school and in life!
As your child approaches and starts secondary school, there are so many added pressures. SATS, more homework, more choices to make and the continuing need to concentrate and focus.
Abel Karate can help your child with these pressures and aid his or her overall well-being and general fitness.
Our Karate syllabus can help improve focus and attention, improve memory and produce better number recall. On a well-being level, a strong basis in Karate and our character development programme can help with stress and anxiety; your child can learn to control aggression and increase their self-esteem.
Another important aspect of Karate is the confidence that can arise from a knowledge of self-defence techniques, so important in this modern world.
Our range of workshops also mean that students can concentrate and expand on areas of karate that they particularly enjoy.
The Be Inspired Project
Founded in 2011, The Be Inspired Project is an innovative and exciting programme, which aims to promote awareness through action, that children and young people with disabilities can thrive in sports. Abel Karate passionately believes that with the right support and specialist teaching methods, every child can reach their true potential.
The project offers schools, clubs and organizations the opportunity to hire a specifically trained, qualified and experienced instructor to run a stimulating and engaging Karate workshop, for children and young people with disabilities. The project also holds weekly sessions across the county and encourages members to attend regularly to support long-term development of coordination, strength and focus.
