This is a great place to visit with children - it's full of interactive displays, you can see amazing film and photographs, listen to moving personal stories, encounter rare and quirky objects and add your own memories of Bristol. For children there are additional bonuses like buried treasure to dig up or discover the museum's hidden depths with a Family Explorer Kit! They can clamber on board the double-decker bus, go inside a World War 2 bomb shelter and make their own sound in the Bristol Sound interactive area.
There are three main galleries: Bristol Places, Bristol People and Bristol Life, each telling a story of Bristol, and each containing a mixture of media. Visit and you can explore over 2000 years of Bristol's history, access over 150 restored and digitalised films and uncover Bristol's trading past. You can explore the city's war-time experiences, industrial heritage and engineering history.
M Shed has a packed events schedule all year round with activities ranging from historical trips around the harbourside on foot or by steam train, to art workshops for kids.
Upstairs there are also special exhibitions which are chargeable but well worth a visit. There's a shop, learning space and cafe. Go and try it out for a fun day out with the children
Now that we are in autumn everyone is looking for things to do with the kids to celebrate this lovely colourful season. Here we have some great ideas, and they don't all involve being cooped up indoors! Get out and enjoy the cooler, fresh air and the crunchy leaves under foot - you can always return home afterwards for a hot chocolate and a snuggle
