Our specialist modules are packed full of tips that Pauline has learnt from 40 years in the business, will teach you everything you need to know to act, sing, dance and direct like a professional!
Our specialist modules include:
Comedy and drama
These sessions are devoted to expanding our student's knowledge of different theatrical forms and techniques. This includes everything from improvisation and devised theatre to mime, mask, scripts and vocal techniques-including projection and diction. Theatre games improve their confidence, self-esteem, teamwork and communication skills and use of imagination and the tools of storytelling are emphasised.
We combine elements of singing, dancing and acting in this module because, in a musical, performers need to use all three to convey a story to the audience. We teach our a range of vocal and dance techniques and they also get the chance to work on scenes that move into musical numbers, giving them the ability to pass from dialogue to song and dance seamlessly within the performance process, using all three techniques to enhance the story for the audience.
Film and television
Acting for camera is very different to acting on stage and here we look at the very honest and truthful style required for the screen. Students will get the chance to see how writing for TV and film works as well as try the roles of the director, camera operator and other production roles. Students work from a mixture of real film and TV scripts along with creating material themselves.
The module culminates in a special screening of the projects at a local cinema, where students can enjoy seeing their films up on the big screen with an invited audience of family and friends. PQA have also partnered with Empire Cinemas to create a national film festival where winning student films are shown at the Empire Cinema, Leicester Square. This exciting event is hosted by Pauline Quirke and gives PQA students the chance to walk down the red carpet in Leicester Square, just like the Hollywood stars.
PQA students also get the chance to perform on a West End stage in one of their specially commissioned shows, enjoy masterclasses in everything from stage combat to magic and are even offered group exams through Trinity College London, at no additional cost to parents.
The academy runs on Saturdays 9.45-13.00
